“Apple’s ability to control the entire information chain, down to the point of limiting leaks, appears to be gradually slipping as it grows as a company. Case in point are the numerous hardware and performance leaks surrounding the newly launched iPhone 4S,” Anand Lal Shimpi and Brian Klug report for AnandTech. “Little did we know that several weeks ago we were staring at photos of the 4S’ PCB, and more recently we’ve seen the first performance results from Apple’s first A5 based smartphone thanks to a few eager users around the web.”
“Using some of the integer and fp tests of published Geekbench scores we can already conclude that Apple is shipping a lower clocked A5 in the iPhone 4S than it does in the iPad 2,” Lal Shimpi and Klug report. “This naturally makes sense as the iPhone 4S has a much smaller 5.25 Whr battery. Based on the Geekbench results it looks like the iPad 2 is clocked around 25% higher than the iPhone 4S, pegging the latter’s clock speed at 800MHz.”
Lal Shimpi and Klug report, “The GPU power in the 4S should be more than enough to run any well written, current generation title at well north of 30 fps on its display.”

It was about 25% faster than iPhone 4 (due to clock frequency), so the mark would be about 450 in the shown graph.

No wonder everyone was disappointed with the iPhone 4S after waiting 16 months and all they got was some measly 73% faster processor. It should have been 173% faster and then maybe, just maybe, the tech-heads and pundits would have been somewhat satisfied. Apple is really slacking off using a 1 GHz A5 processor running at 800 MHz. 800 MHz doesn’t sound impressive at all in the days of even low-end Android smartphones running at 1.2 and 1.5 GHz.
You know what’s going to impress everyone? The Galaxy S3 with a processor running at 1.8 GHz and 1 GB of RAM. Can’t you already feel the speed with those awesome specs? The tech-heads are already creaming in their pants for that. The iPhone 4S has already been named the iFumble by the tech experts because Apple really dropped the ball trying to sell a two year old iPhone 4 as a new 4S. A5 chip… new??? Meh. That thing is at least six months old. iPhiasco 4S changes nothing.
That tired old megahertz myth once again. It was proven bogus during the PC wars. What makes you think it is any more relevant on phones? Anyone spending a week with both android and iOS phones knows that iOS behaves faster and smoother. Leave your geek specs back on the bench, it is more than MHz that makes the iPhone king of the hill.

Yes I too realized that the iPhone4s was going to be a failure.
So I took it upon myself to buy one to help save Apple.
Apparently about 4 million other folks thought the same thing.
And after the holiday crowd gets done I think there might be a chance, small but a chance, Apple may survive the worlds’ disappointment of the iPhone4s.
