This doesn’t make much sense to me that they’d three distinct handsets (4, 4s, 5) — and it doesn’t make sense to me that you’d have to start at 32 gigs for the 5.
Don’t get me wrong, though. I think having a “free” iPhone 4 is a helluva deal and would change the game vs. Android big time. I’d just be surprised to see three handsets. It goes against Apple’s simplistic nature.

Unless the other rumor that iPhone 5 is a Sprint exclusive… then having 3 would make sense. 4 and 4s for the majority of users and 5 for new customers to (and loyal customers still with) Sprint.
There’s a price point for everyone and that spells deep trouble for Fragdroid.
Can’t upgrade until next June earliest, but that 64Gb iPhone 5 sure looks tasty to me. Hmmm, wonder how much I could get for my iPhone 4?
They don’t make you wait to upgrade an iPhone. They renew your contract if you buy the new model.
64 GB iPhone 5 is highly unlikely, since it is supposed to be thinner than iPhone 4/4s, hence it is much harder to fit 64 GB flash memory there.
Looks like the same pricing for the 5’s (if this is accurate) as all new iPhones in the past. $299 and $399.

64GB iPhone 5 for $299? All I know is that my original 2007 iPhone was $599 for 8GB. That would be a fabulous price.

No less than $450. That is the nominal subsidy for an iPhone from AT&T.
Husband paid $659.00 unlocked directly from Apple several months ago for a 16GB 4.
With various sites leaking cases, prices and placeholders (Sprint, RadioShack, AT&T, Vodaphone, Etc.) is the most telling point of all this that the keynote will contain the line by Tim Cook, “And it (they) are available TODAY!”

These are contract subsidized prices. They’re not handing out old iPhone 4’s for free, smartypants.
Wow, I sure hope this rumor is true and that there will be both an iPhone 4S AND an iPhone 5. I’d definitely be willing to pay $399 in a heartbeat for a 64GB iPhone 5!

Now let’s talk SOFTWARE! that’s what makes it Apple. Specs will get copied (ultrabooks). iOS 5 is going to be the real reason for the massive demand. You all know the reasons etc.

In my opinion, it would seem more plausible if the iPhone 4S had 512 MB RAM, like the 4. The jump of $100 from the 4S to the 5 for just a better camera and different form factor doesn’t sit well with me. I suppose the fact that the design will be “newer” will persuade some people to upgrade. Of course, there may be other as-of-yet unknown advantages of the iPhone 5, justifying the price difference.
They need the increased RAM to run the new voice recognition software on iOS 5.
That actually just dawned on me. Makes sense then. Although I do think there will be some differences other than just camera/design (unless perhaps the design itself offers significant benefits?).

It is unreliable because it comes from a single. Married people are generally considered more reliable, you know.
These have a chance to thoroughly disrupt the smartphone market in the developed world (where Android gained a lot of traction with less expensive models). With the cheapest iPhone now close to $450 (without the subsidy), it is severely encroaching on Android’s turf.
But not quite, though. There will still be dozens of Android devices that can be had well below $300 (again, without the subsidy). In fact, a few crappy Huawei models can be even bought for less than $100. They are indeed crappy, BUT they run Android (FroYo), they have capacitive glass touchscreen, and they run hundreds of thousands of Android apps. These currently dominate the smartphone markets in the developed world, and they’ll continue to dominate. When an iPhone (or a high-end Android) costs the equivalent of two average monthly salaries, the sub- $100 devices are the only thing these folks can afford. And in the market share pie charts, they show up under the same slice, for Android.

YES! If this is true – great strategy. The 4 is for pre-paid and buyers that want a cheap phone.
The 4S will have upgraded processor and increased RAM to run new voice recognition on iOS5.

I find it hard to believe that the only difference between a “4S” and “5” model is that the camera is a little better. And that’s a $100 difference? We’re missing something. There HAS to be something we haven’t learned about the “5” model besides the aforementioned hardware specs.
Nope, doesn’t have to be much in spec difference. If it is thinner, and looks good, I know many people that will pay an extra $100 for the “latest model” on looks and form factor alone. I think that the 5 may have a slightly larger screen, maybe RFID for financial transactions.

As much as I love my iPhone 4, and the quality of the manufacturing, I still preferred the 3G when holding in your hand making a call
My guess as to another difference between the 4s & 5 would be the 5 has HSPA allowing up 21Mbs internet to HSDPA at only 7.2Mbs internet speeds. Just a guess though

I see neither “black” or “white” offered with the choices for the iPhone 5, although this is a rumor, I dare to speculate that it might have after all aluminum or chromed backing. And the front, which MIGHT have a bigger screen, wont make sense technically to offer it in other color than black… or who knows, maybe the WHOLE front thing might be the screen!

I emailed HTC’s support team about this and told them that it really needs to be fixed. Back to the main story topic… it’ll be interesting to see if Apple have redesigned the antenna in the wake of Antennagate. It sure doesn’t seem to have slowed the sales of the existing iPhone 4 model any!
If true, this lineup makes a good argument for the appearance of LTE on the iphone 5. Such a surprise could be the dream device for investors and fanboys both.
The 3 reasons typically given for no LTE have been (1) larger size requirements given the lack of thoroughly integrated LTE chips, (2) greater battery requirements, and (3) limited yield/supplies of LTE chips.
The potentially larger size of the iphone 5 as discussed in numerous rumors (including a 4 inch screen, with a larger case and battery) , could handle 1 and 2. The addition of a third product line (the 4S) could segment the iphone market sufficiently to handle number 3.
The iphone 5 with a 4 inch screen and LTE would be this years ultimate device.

It doesn’t make sense to me that voice control or whatever it is called could only run on devices with at least 1 GB of ram.
That would exclude even the iPad 2 from being able to use it.
I am guessing that it will also run on any iOS device capable of running iOS 5, even though more ram makes many apps run better.

Beauty is that Apple can offer several models and still avoid fragmentation. The OS will run on all of the devices (though older units may lack certain features that require improved hardware).
