Purported ‘iPhone 5’ silicone sleeves already in AT&T retail stores

“We now have evidence that cases for the rumored iPhone 5 redesign have already begun arriving at AT&T retail stores, as one reader has sent us alleged photos of iPhone 5 silicone sleeves that appear to have arrived at his AT&T store [yesterday],” Eric Slivka reports for MacRumors.

“Like other cases for the rumored redesign of the iPhone 5, these cases appear to show a tapered design and the mute switch moved to the opposite side of the device,” Slivka reports. “Third-party cases continue to be essentially the only evidence in favor of a redesigned iPhone 5 even as evidence for the iPhone 4S continues to mount in the form of parts leaks, inventory database listings, and other reports from sources.”

  1. If the iPhone 5 turns out to bear the radical redesign these cases imply, you gotta give up for Apple for keeping this under wraps. All these analysts and their supply chain checks who predicted no new design are going to eat their words. I think the 4S will be the “one more thing” and you’ll have to hand it to Tim Cook for the red herrings and misdirections (i.e., invitation, leaked inventory codes, etc.).

    1. Yet it would be fun if Apple cheated the thieves and actual shape of the new iPhone will be either as in iPhone 4 or different from the leaked forms.

(Not that this is probable, though; most likely, the new design is indeed such as the cases suggest.)

  2. Would any case manufacturer in their right mind use that much packaging to house such a thin case? It is ridiculous.

Does anybody use their brains anymore when they report these fakes as proof?

    1. Hmm, I wouldn’t say an excess of packaging is necessarily indication of a fake. After buying a shirt in Britain, it’s an infuriating 10 minutes taking all the various layers, clips and card inserts before you can actually try the badboy on….
