  1. from Apple:

“About Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1
The 10.6.8 update is recommended for all users running Mac OS X Snow Leopard and includes general operating system fixes that enhance the stability, compatibility, and security of your Mac, including fixes that:

    – Enhance the Mac App Store to get your Mac ready to upgrade to Mac OS X Lion
    – Resolve an issue that may cause Preview to unexpectedly quit
    – Improve support for IPv6
    – Improve VPN reliability
    – Identify and remove known variants of Mac Defender “

  2. I don’t recall ever seeing a 1.1 version of any previous OS X combo updater. I wonder if this has anything to do with easing the pain of upgrading to Lion that some users are reporting. Actually, there are a whole bunch of novice Mac users howling with indignation on the Apple Discussion forums because they rushed out to upgrade without reading anything whatsoever about Lion or its compatibility issues. It’s really quite a spectacle and, for the most part, entirely uncalled for.

So I presume that this 10.6.8 v.1.1 combo updater would replace the original 10.6.8 combo updater for those who have not yet updated to 10.6.8?

  3. I installed this and have been unable to boot my computer since. It just spins at the apple logo screen and the laptop gets super hot quickly. Not sure what to try. By putting it in target mode I can boot from it fine with another computer.

    1. Did you manually download the 10.6.8 v.1.1 combo update or let Software Update do the job? Software Update won’t install the combo update unless you are currently running 10.6.7 or earlier. If you didn’t run the combo updater, download and install it. This will probably fix your problem.

If you have already installed the combo updater, I would try reinstalling it. Then repair permissions. If that doesn’t work, I would restore my system from the clone I made just prior to installing this update and then install the combo update again.

    1. spj, Josh was just sharing his personal experience. I didn’t see any narcissim in his comment.

Sounds like you’re frustrated with the update though and it didn’t go so well for you. If this is the case, do share what happened so it will benefit those of us who may encounter the same problem.

  4. Updated a couple of days ago — no problems updating.

But I did notice (after a couple of days) the “WEB PROCESS” warning window came up everytime I visited a site.

Looking at Security Prefs, I noticed my FIREWALL was off????

  5. I’m still on Snow Leopard. I started this update several hours ago; I’ve been sitting here staring at a blue screen with an indeterminate progress wheel for most of the time. Is this normal? Any advice?
