Apple wins two original iPhone patents regarding rotation heuristics

“The US Patent and Trademark Office officially published a series of 12 newly-granted patents for Apple Inc. today,” Jack Purcher reports for Patently Apple.

“The two patents that stood out from the pack this morning related to the original 2007 iPhone,” Purcher reports. “In fact the patents were complimentary to one another in that one covers portrait-landscape rotation heuristics and the other covers screen rotation gestures”

Purcher writes, “I guess that’s a double whammy for Apple and just more headaches for the likes of Google’s Android.”

  1. At the end of that report they talk about a failed patent, but it’s funny. Here’s one part that I liked: “Apple fans got a barrel of laughs while the PC community got to rip the flesh from their face in spitting anger. Now that’s a fair trade-off isn’t it? Ha! ”
    Now that’s nice imagery 🙂

  2. I think we can safely say Apple knew this a while ago, if the War’s (computerworld post) accelerating pace is anything to go by. I think we can also expect quite a few more IOS functionality patents to be released soon that are still pending.
The free lunch is well and truly over.

  3. Hey what’s the big deal? It’s like music sampling isn’t it? You hear an idea and modify it a little and you have a new song. In this case
they take Apple’s ideas modify a bit by slapping their logo on it et voila sell it as original. It’s the corporate way. Why think original
( or different) if you don’t have to? And you get a cute little robot
( simplified R2D2?) to make you feel modern. Beats that ugly
    fruit logo any day!

    You first.
    No, you first.
No, no, I insist! You first!
I wouldn’t think of it. You first!

ComplEmentary, not complimentary. A period would not be out of place, either.

The world is going to hell in a handbasket.

  5. Well “WoW Tech” I hope that it’s a luxury handbasket. We may as well go in style, right?

That seems to be a very important set of patents, no? So much of anything-tablets seems to use this feature. Although I think they’re more defensive in nature, you have to wonder.
