Apple prepping new iOS wireless sharing that will compete with webOS ‘touch-to-share’

“When HP first introduced the TouchPad’s ‘Touch to Share'” feature earlier this year, fans and industry pundits alike applauded them for their innovation,” Jack Purcher reports for PatentlyApple. “Well, it appears that Apple has been working on something similar for about 18 months now.”

“Of course in typical Apple fashion, the concepts envisioned appear to be far more creative as they implement gesturing with Physics Metaphors,” Purcher reports. “In one example… you’ll be able to ‘pour out’ files from one device to another in a manner that mimics that of pouring water. Apple lists a host of other examples that include sound effects. One such example includes an iPhone sucking up files from an iPad with the sound effect of a vacuum cleaner.”

Purcher reports, “While this newly proposed feature will certainly apply to all of Apple’s hardware, it will also eventually apply to other devices such as televisions, whiteboards, projectors and more. Whether this ends up being a spin-off of Apple’s forthcoming ‘AirDrop’ feature or not remains to be seen. For now, it’s Apple adding some badly needed personality to the boring process of file sharing.”

  1. “One such example includes an iPhone sucking up files from an iPad with the sound effect of a vacuum cleaner.”

I can imagine the knockoffdroid version of this when they copy it.

… With your kockoffdroid phone in one hand, make a motion back and forth from your mouth as your tongue pokes your cheeks back and forth.

    1. Android’s version will be that you move your hand in a back-and-forth motion several times below the level of your abdomen and a torrent of spurts will then splash all around your devices.

  2. Apple is stealing the vacuum effect from Android, who has had this feature from day one…. that is Google sucking every last bit of private data from every Androd phone, browser, search, gmail, docs… U name it!

    1. AirDrop in Lion is done by creating a secure peer-to-peer network over wifi between computers and transfers the data encrypted. The craziest (ie. coolest) part of the whole thing is that the computers don’t need to even be on a wireless network, let alone the same one!

  3. When it gets copied in Windows Mobile Phone 10 Ultimate Home Sharing Edition the gesture and theme music will be from that ketchup commercial of old. “Anticipa-ya-shun… It’s keepin’ me way-ya-ya-ya-tin…”
