Apple today released Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 5 which delivers improved compatibility, security, and reliability by updating Java SE 6 to 1.6.0_26.
Apple today also released Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 10 which delivers improved compatibility, security, and reliability by updating J2SE 5.0 to 1.5.0_30, and updating Java SE 6 to 1.6.0_26 for 64-bit capable Intel-based Macs. J2SE 1.4.2 is no longer being updated to fix bugs or security issues and remains disabled by default in this update.
Both Java Updates are available via Software Update and also via standalone installers.

Since i updated to 10.6.8 I have been getting some unstability with my system(s). Yes both my iMacs have the same symptoms.
1. Safari crashes every 5 to 6 hours
2 when i plug in any of my iPhones or iPods or iPads (Yes I have a multiple number of each device) i get the following message, “iTunes was unable to load data class information from sync services. Reconnect or try again later”.
I have tried to reconnect and/or tried “later”, but nothing doing.
I thought this Java update might help. So far sync-ing to the mac still comes up with the error message. Not sure if Safari is back to its normal stable self.
Can someone help with 2????

Try downloading (and running) the manual “combo” update installer, which for 10.6.8 should be

This reinstalls every previous Snow Leopard update, and sometimes helps with odd issues that are not affecting everyone.
Before you do this, (as always) you should have a backup of your personal data (such as from using Time Machine), in case something bad happens. Also, run Disk Utility and use “First Aid” Repair Disk Permissions AND Verify Disk to make sure your startup volume has no issues. If things are fine, RESTART the Mac, and then immediately run that combo update installer.
Try downloading Firefox. It’s the only cure for Safari.

It is horrible, it lacks so much (well it did when I tried it a long time ago) functionality that its a non-starter. No thanks.
But the good news is that the reinstalling Safari seems to have fixed it!!!
Re apply the full combo update. Worked for me with the same machine and issues.
And always run DiskWarrior before any major update!
Did not Apple last year decide to top providing own Java updates?
My coffee maker feels snappier this morning.

When I use disk utility, I always have permission issues. I know it by running “verify permission” stuff. I will update tonight and see what would happen.
