“Verizon Chief Financial Officer Fran Shammo says the next Verizon iPhone model will work on overseas networks,” Peter Svensson reports for The Associated Press.
“Shammo was speaking on a conference call with analysts Thursday, after the release of the company’s first-quarter results,” Svensson reports. “He didn’t say when the new phone would launch. Apple has released previous iPhone models in late June and early July, but analysts are saying it could be a few months later this year.”
The fluctuation, I believe, will come when a new device from Apple is launched, whenever that may be, and that we will be, on the first time, on equal footing with our competitors on a new phone hitting the market, which will also be a global device. – Fran Shammo, Verizon CFO

If this is true and if you can swap out sims and migrate from one U.S. telco to another with at least 3G reception, it would be the best thing to happen to telco competition in the U.S.
If you were to bring out a $200 – $300 no-contract phone with this capability, it would be a revolution.

Maybe Verizon could also provide us with the latest news on the specs for the iPad 3. Why not, they can not keep a secret. Maybe someone ask a detracting question followed by a quick question on the iPad 3 specs or release date? The answer would roll out faster then a politician going to a fundraiser for themselves.

Somebodys not happy AT&T activated more iPhones than them last quarter..
Actually, Verizon had the iPhone for a little less than 2 months so their monthly rate was close to AT&T’s. 2.2 million in less than 2 months vs. 3.5 million in 3 months.
This will be a GSM/CDMA phone not a LTE phone as the rest of the world hasn’t rolled out 4G in the same way as the US.
My prediction agrees with others that 4G LTE won’t be in there just yet, which will give the Android fanboys some ammo but will allow the phone to be sleek and battery-friendly.
As for GSM/CDMA dual compatibility, that’ll be great for those who travel the world. For me, that’s about five days a year and we usually go to Mexico where there’s a fair amount of CDMA coverage anyways.
Will be sort of weird to see a SIM card on a Verizon iPhone, though.
It would be very smart for Apple to make the iPhone 5 LTE, but I agree with midwestmac that I don’t think it will happen. It’s too bad, because the Android makers will toot their horns about having LTE, when it really isn’t an issue for most people.
