  1. And if the winner is gainfully employed, most likely (s)he owes $2,500 in federal taxes + probably another $500 more in state taxes. I wonder if they will let the poor sap, er lucky winner, withdraw that amount in cash from the account?

You noticed, didn’t you, that the $10,000 winner was: …Gail Davis of Orpington, Kent, UK.

That would amount to a gift card worth 6,249.61 GBP (United Kingdom Pounds).

What would be her tax liability in Great Britain, I wonder? Would it be higher or lower than the effective rate of 30% you predicted for the US?

  3. Based on what I see in these comments, the educational level of our citizens are sorely lacking. UK is United Kingdom (Great Britain) or England to most folks. It’s located in the western part of Europe.

  4. @JB – sort of an island isn’t it? I seem to recall “this sceptred isle, ” or something along those lines.

It matters little how much she will pay in taxes. Her health care and pension aren’t under attack.

Not to split hairs, but <strongGreat Britain</strong> includes Scotland, Wales, and England.

The <strongUnited Kingdom</strong is comprised of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

England is the the most populous country within Great Britain and the United Kingdom.
