“A movie claimed to be the first ever cinema-standard film to be shot solely on the iPhone has been premiered by celebrated South Korean director Park Chan-Wook,” AFP reports.
“‘Night Fishing’ is said to have the same picture resolution as conventional movies but took just 80 people, 150 million won ($133,000) and 10 days to create,” AFP reports. “Park Chan-Wook said he at first approached the project, a 30-minute film about a surreal encounter between a fisherman and a female shaman (medium), for fun… But the director, best known internationally for ‘Oldboy’ and ‘Thirst’ which each won Cannes festival prizes, discovered unexpected benefits.”
AFP reports, “The movie, co-directed by Park and his brother Park Chan-Kyong, will be shown in 10 cinemas nationwide from January 27 for four days.”

[Thanks to MacDailyNews Readers “Brawndo Drinker” and “Dan K.” for the heads up.]
What is “Brawndo”, and why would anyone drink it?
During I discover so super-excellent news I have a great mood! I want to sing and ride on knee, just like when I had found the ephedrine
@ Spark
Because it’s like riding a pony…
COVERED IN CHAINSAWS!!!!
My first iPhone 4 movie…
It was shot with one hand (because I had a drink in the other) so it’s a bit shaky. Is there an iPhone steady cam?
Edited in iMovie ’11.
The iPhone steadicam is called the Smoothee, $199 from TIffen. There’s a version for iPod Touch, Flip etc due this month.
@Spark
He’s alluding to Marlon Brando who was quite a bit of a bon vivant & drinker. He also played an ex-prizefighter turned longshoreman in ‘On the Waterfront’. In other words a brawny docker.
Hence Brawndo Drinker.
@ Rob Irvine
Thanks! …but no mention of iPhone 4 compatibility. Looks like a simple matter of changing the clip design.
Drink Brawndo!
It’s better than water..
Everytime i see Brawndo it just cracks me up.
IT’S WHAT PLANTS CRAVE!!!
Hey C1 are all your YouTube movies psychedelically twisted? Like way to get toked up man!
@ Ballmer’s left nut
A halloween party is twisted?
You get out much…?
I mean if I lived in Ballmer’s sack, I’d make every effort to escape and see the world…
@Ballmer’s left nut: Wow you are so wrong. Please download Idiocracy tonight: “Brawndo’s got what plants crave. It’s got electrolytes.”
This isn’t the first effort at serious filmmaking on the iPhone. There is this team (Majek Pictures) that makes web series (“Goldilocks”, I believe), and they shoot on iPhone 4. I’m not sure about these Koreans, but the ‘Majek’ team do some serious post-production work on proper desktops, using After Effects and whatnot.
This is a wonderful gimmick that works very well for independent filmmakers: your effort gets noticed, not so much because of its merit, but because of the gimmick — it is shot with a cellphone.
Until everyone starts doing it and it no longer is a gimmick.
More important than the great film quality you get out of an iPhone 4 is the fact that Apple has sold over 1.8M phones in South Korea in a little over a year, since launching in Nov 09.
@ChrissyOne:
Chicken-powered iPhone steadicam:
Brawn do is what plants crave!
Brawndo’s got electrolytes! Not like toilet water!
Is it really necessary to include a db like Breitbart as a news source. He is just another right wing air bag and not deserving of any legitimacy lent by sourcing him. I expect better from MDN
