Skype 3.0 adds video calling to iPhone app

Skype has released version 3.0 of their iPhone app which now comes with video.

Skype for iPhone lets you make and receive free Skype video calls on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, and works over both WiFi and 3G connections.

With Skype’s new app, you can:
• Make Skype to Skype video calls on WiFi and 3G
• Call Skype desktop users (Mac OS X or Windows) and other iPhone users
• Two-way video calls supported on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 4th gen
• Receive only video supported on iPad and iPod touch 3rd gen, with no camera
• Make video calls in portrait and landscape

The new app is compatible with the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPod touch 4th generation with iOS 4.0 or above. You can also receive video calls on the iPod touch 3rd generation and iPad. Calls can be made between devices using the new Skype for iPhone app and desktops including Skype for Windows 4.2 and above, Skype for Mac 2.8 and above, Skype for Linux and the ASUS videophone.

Yea, but on the Android the “retards” can use the Qik with a real 4g phone on a real 4g network and it actually works as well as iPhone and facetime on wifi. The skype over the AT&T network has been tested by Engdaget with not so favorable results. Suck on that one!

G4speed has been tested by experts. They have concluded that 4g speeds are as fast as the best 3g speeds, therefore no real change. Google it, and read more abou what the experts say and not what the ads are saying. You need to do you homework!

Yea, I’ve done my home work… If the ITU says it’s 4G then it is! You should do YOUR home work! http://www.itu.int/net/pressoffice/press_releases/2010/48.aspx

T-Mobile’s speeds have been tested at well over twice the speed of WiMax and Verizon’s LTE. I wouldn’t even bring up AT&T’s network in that comparison. No contest.

@ Zune Tang… I don’t know if your for real or a satirist, but I’ve got a WP7 HD7 and it’s awesome what MS has done with their OS. It’s got real potential. I love my Android, but the WP7 is very sweet and more simple than even the iPhone.

At best the claimed 4G from Sprint and Verizon are 3.5G – they are barely faster than 3G. Real 4G is 100 MBps – none of them exceed 15-20 right now.

It’s called marketing and advertising folks – don’t believe everything, don’t be the sucker that PT Barnum spoke of.

No need to “flip back and forth” with 3GS. Why would you? If you use skype on your laptop and call your friend on her laptop, you both just have one camera, say the built-in MacBook Pro’s, and both of you can see each other (and your selves) while video chatting. Ofcourse a one camera smart phone with video can do this. Skype just out-smarted the 2 camera iPhone 4 by providing the obvious, elegant solution. Why do you even need front and back facing cameras to do two- way video calls when we never needed two cameras with our notebooks? Can someone explain this, please.
