And the guesswork is well under way… I am amused at how articles like this use statements like “features it WILL have” when they are really just guessing like the rest of us. Why don’t they just admit that?

USB ain’t gonna be on version 2 unless a processor that can handle the apps that can handle the USB input is there also.
I see a faster processor and consumer friendly SD this year
with USB 3 next year when some powerful apps run on it.

No USB. None. Never. It’s all about thinness and wireless file transfer moving forward. Maybe will have an SD Card slot. Might see digital cameras moving to wireless chips, too.

Apple’s been working on wireless sync for some years now. I think the wireless iTunes connect is imminent.

This is just another moron analyst who knows nothing about tech. For example, his #5. The ability to run “bigger apps” isn’t about a dual-core processor, it is about the iPad getting the same amount (or more) system memory as the iPhone 4 (512 megs). The fact that the iPhone 4 has more memory means it can run heavyweight apps such as iMovie, and the iPad (256 megs) cannot.

I can’t believe I waste my time reading these idiots.

I have no idea where he’s getting his info from. Just because Apple announced the previous iPad in January, doesn’t mean it will do the same again this year. Look at when it was available for a better indication. The iPad wasn’t shipping till April. I’d expect a new model closer to that date.

How do I come up with that? history… look at the first iPhone. Announced in January, shipped in June of that year. Every year following, a new one shipped around that time. There were no announcements until a lot closer to the ship date.

The guy that wrote that article is not an idiot….I am the one that wrote it and I’ve been a network engineer for 15 years so I know a tad about tech….

The article was speculative in nature – it was based on “what if” and to the point of it being announced in January, well, based on past events and history, it is a pretty safe bet….

the USB port? it’s a cited rumor – I have no clue if it will be there or even could (or should) but if it were….I threw out ideas that could be possible….again speculative writing

and Ralph has a great point about dual processors but the point here is that if it were to have them..you could run apps which were more dependent on the processor such as video editing – which again is entirely possible.

The point is…this was not some thrown together article by an “analyst” that knows nothing…it was meant to be speculative and “what if” based on the nearly endless rumors flying around.

I don’t mind being called out for being blatantly wrong about a stated fact but calling someone a moron is a bit over the top

Exactamundo. Apple announced the original iPad early because there weren’t any existing sales to put a dampener on.

I’ve resisted the 1G iPad in the hope of more storage. An SD slot would be the next best thing (provided it’s accessible to all apps).

Apple didn’t have to announce anything ten years ago. Windows tablets sucked for consumers then and they still suck now. Don’t blame Apple. The consumers said it with their wallets year after year after year.

I’d really love for Windows tablets to fail monumentally in 2011 so Microsoft executives will finally get it into their thick heads that Windows 7 desktop OS on a thin, power-efficient tablet is shyte and only Bill Gates and a few of his boot-licking fanbois think it’s a wonderful thing to have.

I don’t see how a “flatter back” makes it easier to “hold.”

I doubt it will have a built-in USB port. That just opens things up to people trying to connect all sorts of crazy USB devices that will not work, because there is no iOS driver, or things that will quickly drain the iPad’s battery or perhaps even cause damage, and then complaining to Apple. The Dock Connector already allows connection of external devices, while providing a “filter” to ensure they actually work well with iPad.

Built-in cameras will not be as usable on iPad (compared to iPhone), but I think it will happen. The “other” tablets will all have cameras, and Apple does not want that one feature (or lack of) to be a deciding factor for customers who compare spec sheets instead of actual user experience. But I still think a better way to add a camera to iPad is to create the “Apple Bluetooth Camera” that connects wirelessly. It would allow steady video from a good camera angle for FaceTime, without the need to hold an iPad steady in an awkward position with both hands for and extended period of time. It would also give all existing iPod 1.0 owners a way to get the “FaceTime upgrade.” Apple can also make it Mac compatible, especially useful for Mac mini and Mac Pro owners who do not use an Apple LED Cinema Display.
