DirecTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket coming to Apple TV, Boxee and Roku players?

Apple Online StoreA tipster has provided Engadget with a marketing research survey “and a recent one by DirecTV may be a good sign for those who prefer their NFL Sunday Ticket over the internet instead of satellite,” Richard Lawler reports for Engadget.

“Some of the questions asking about potential pricing setups indicated the digital version would be available via currently unsupported devices including internet connected Blu-ray players & TVs, ‘game machines,’ Apple TV, Roku and Boxee,” Lawler reports. “Another new wrinkle is a $19.99 per weekend pricing plan for streaming NFL Sunday Ticket access among other options. Currently, Sunday Ticket streams in HD to PCs and a bevy of mobile platforms (even without DirecTV’s TV service), but it’s possible we could see that list expand to several if not all connected TV platforms in the near future…”

  1. If the NHL would drop their blackout restrictions for NHL Game Center, I’d get the subscription right now for my Roku and dump cable tv.

If NHL Sunday Ticket comes to AppleTV, Boxee, Roku, PS3, etc., then the cable and sat companies will have a real business crisis on their hands.

  2. “Currently, Sunday Ticket streams in HD to PCs and a bevy of mobile platforms (even without DirecTV’s TV service)…”

I think this is somewhat misleading. Streaming Sunday Ticket without DirectTV service is not a national program. Last year it was only in Manhattan. I think it expanded this year, but I do not think it was very widespread.

Hopefully, this rumor (which is supported by someone I know that works in legal for one of the hardware companies) is Direct TV’s method of rolling it out nationally.

  3. Thats steep @ $20 a week. it’s not like they are going to sell it ala carte. They sell NFL sunday ticket for $340. Now they are trying to force 18 game season pushing it to 20 weeks(18games, 2 bye weeks) making you pay $400

  4. Yeah, Sunday ticket is $340, WITHOUT red zone, webcast, etc. Once you add all the things that would make it worth 320, it is over $500.

I will gladly pay 20 a weekend. My team is from another market, on weeks when their games are not on my local coverage, I would pay 20 bones to watch them. Impulse buy, 20 bones is nothing..
