Howard Stern announced this morning that he has signed a new 5 year deal with Sirius XM Radio.
Jon C. Ogg writes for 24/7 Wall St., “As we suspected, the rumors that Stern would sign an iTunes exclusive with Apple Inc. (AAPL) were false.”
It seems that Stern was the first peg because he noted that his staff have not yet signed on, but he expects that most will sign on,” Ogg writes. “There are probably going to be fewer shows as we have suspected as much of the negotiations were said to be around the workload and the schedule. The new deal is said to ‘more flexible,’ again without details.”
MacDailyNews Note: Stern has announced that his new contract allows inclusion of Stern’s show in the SIRIUS XM app for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.

That was one of the stupidest rumors of all time, it rates right up with Apple going to Intel chips. Oh, wait….
He did say it would be available on the official app. Wasn’t sure when, but he said it might even be available now.
Bababooey!
Big deal. Stern is repetitive and boring. NEXT!
That this point Stern Doesn’t have much choice. It’s either renew with Sirius/XM for as long as they’ll have him or retire and find a non-radio Gig to pay the bills.
I don’t think he needs to worry about how he’s going to be paying bills. He made plenty of money before his original deal and then cashed in his stocks nearly crashing Sirius. He’d be fine never working again.
Apparently, this deal means that Sirius/XM will continue to live, judging by the reaction of the stock. When the news was announced, the stock bounce was significant (almost 20%). It has settled down since, but at market open, it was still up by a noticeable 8%. It looks like Howard Stern is carrying the satellite broadcaster on his own shoulders…
It wasn’t a stupid rumor. It was probably a story planted by Stern’s camp to ensure a good deal with Sirius.
Stern probably sent a letter to Apple saying I want to do an iTunes show for a $100 million a year. Then they immediately leaked that they were in negotiations before Apple had a chance to stop laughing and reply.
We’ll the wife and I will be scribers for another 5 years.
Bought Sirius @ 0.13 in March of 08 ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />
Why would anybody care?
Sirius/XM cares along with its millions of subscribers. I think that’s obvious – perhaps not so much to the blind here on MDN. Stern is quite relevant and is likely the only personality that can demand such contracts from subscription based businesses.
Your wife likes Howard Stern?
What’s weird about that? My wife likes Howard too.
Another note – analyst estimate the revenue loss from a Stern departure would have cost Sirius/XM $20-30 million a month.
I used to listen to him every day on my way to work, but after awhile it was same-old-same-old, too much of the same lewd Q.’s over and over and not enough good interviews. And I haven’t listened since.
It’s funny.
Go do some research on ratings and listenership… Stern has an average of 1.25 million PER WEEK listening to him.
So that 20-30 million a month loss from him leaving…
I have Sirius myself, sadly I bought it right after stern went to Sirius so I’m counted as a person who switched because of stern… Which is not the case. I’ve listened to him a few times. He’s a nutcase with a big ego.
I signed on to Sirius after the trial service that came with my new car was up. Never listened to Stern on Sirius. Saw his tv radio show a few segments when it was on the air, but like others have said, same old, same old. He may be to some people’s taste. Just not mine.
I won’t renew my Sirius agreement when up… It’s just like cable, pay for a bunch of channels and in this case a bunch of overblown personality hypes, that you never listen to!
Why is this news? In other related items…its snowing outside…Missy got a new dolly….and Hank the beagle has fleas.
@buster
Lies!!!
Hank does NOT have fleas.
It’s “news” cause it mentions the Sirius app in the story.. Round a bout way to get stern and apple in the same story.
@backlash…did I say fleas? I meant worms ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />
Sirius/XM will be around in 5 years?
Oh great .. Paid content with scrolling ads for online casinos
Maybe he’ll stop bitching about it now. Bitchy Stern is about the least entertaining thing on the radio.
I thought Steve Jobs didn’t allow porn in the app store?!
Yes, the wife Loves Howard’s show and we have Howard TV…
She’s very Hot and had a great since of humor…best wife anyone could have…if you only knew!
And western civilization continues on it’s downward spiral for another 5 years, guaranteed. As long as Stern broadcasts his brand of demoralizing female objectification, yet another generation of young men will be deluded into believing that women are inferior to the American male.
Wow, did I just say that? N
