   As I understand it, cell towers have to ration power (signal strength) as the number of users increases. If that is indeed the case, then it would not surprise me if signal strength varied quite a bit over time, even at the same geographic location.

   It gives you the actual number for the signal strength. That will hopefully quiet any remaining doubters regarding iPhone antenna performance who continue to insist that Apple merely masked a design flaw by playing games with the bars.

   Yikes. Do people not understand negative numbers? Schools have failed to the point that we have to come up with obtuse constructions rather than simply saying “the lower the number, the worse the signal.”

    Been testing mine hourly here in hills above San Jose, CA. Worst case 4 bars I got -88 best case bars I got several -82′s. I have never had a call dropped at home since I got the iPhone 4 on day one. I tried to make it a contact but does not work, you gotta key it in each time.

    On O2 in Ireland. Getting -113 sitting on the couch. There are 2,000 homes in this estate! in the capital, DUBLIN!!

    This is actually better than it used to be before they “fixed it”. I got out of an old contract a few years ago because they admitted the coverage was so poor here.
