RUMOR: T-Mobile to get Apple iPhone soon in U.S.; source: ‘definitely’

“A source from Apple tells this column that the iPhone is a definite go for T-Mobile,” Daryl Deino reports for The LA Examiner. “‘There were talks about it, then strong rumors. Then, there were problems with the carrier. But now, the iPhone will definitely be available for T-Mobile.’”

Deino reports, “Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get an exact availability date, but it sounds like the very beginning of next year.”

You’ve obviously never used T-mobile. I was using them prior to getting my original iPhone, and ATT was a HUGE improvement in network coverage. (And I live in NJ, so it’s not like I was in the middle of nowhere)

I want Sprint. Still waiting although AT&T in my area is actually very good (South Florida).

Just don’t want to buy before knowing my options.

Kind of hope Apple screws Verizon and lets all the other carriers have it.

@critic, I’m referring to their spotty 3G in a major metro area as well as the huge number of dropped calls. T-Mobile is much better there.

As Apple opens the iPhone to more of the carriers in the USA the deeper the hit on the Android sales. Who would buy an Android when they could have an iPhone for the same money?

My son had T-Mobile. Their customer service and billing isn’t the least bit like AT&T.

If you have a billing issue with AT&T, you dial their 800 number and whoever you talk to on the phone, what they type into their computer sticks and is the real deal; your billing has been adjusted—in real time.

Not so with T-Mobile; not in the least.

My son got Navy orders to move from the continental U.S. to an overseas location. T-Mobile, like most any other company, exempts military personnel from penalties imposed by having to break contracts because of deployment orders. So…

I helped my son deal with T-Mobile by faxing in documentation (that they “never received” so I had to send it again) and talking with their representatives on the phone. In a nutshell: the people you talk to on the phone who *say* they will do this or that don’t actually make any billing adjustments; they just pass along a request to this mysterious billing department that YOU can’t call, can’t e-mail, can’t fax. Nor can the customer service representative call them; they can only send them messages through their little green-screen computer terminals.

So no matter what, you end up getting bills month after month after month. Why? They know full well that doing so will just wear down a large percentage of their customers. Their invoices are like herpes: they never go away because they hide those who are truly responsible behind a wall to get their customer service reps off the hook.

well dude, you’ve obviously never used AT&T where i live… AT&T stinks… Verizon overcharges/bad billing errors(otherwise they would be the best)… Sprint is a joke…

So, it depends where you live. Once Apple gets the iPhone on other carriers… We’ll see how they truly compete.

This rumor is believable. T-Mobile has a GSM network and the transition should be fairly easy. Verizon, on the other hand is a different matter. Not only is their network CDMA, but they are such d1cks to deal with. Apple could still be negotiating with them by the end of the next decade and not have anything worked out.

T-Mobile sucks big time. At least here in The Netherlands: no reception at all in The Hague, Amsterdam and other cities and it has the worst customer service. Two more days and I’ve switched back to good old KPN.

I live in Houston and have used Sprint and Cingular in the past. I currently use T-Mobile. We have not had any billing issues to date, so I cannot comment on customer service. The coverage and service is adequate, but I generally have low signal strength. In addition, I have seen “Emergency Service Only” quite a few times. I have also had calls connected (T-Mobile to T-Mobile subscriber) in which one of the participants could not hear the other. It also seems to take quite a while for a call to actually start to dial and begin ringing on the other end. I suppose that could be my Motorola POS phone.

I am not an AT&T lover by any means. In fact, I have made it a policy over the past ten years to avoid AT&T. But I would not count on T-Mobile being a big improvement in terms of coverage, speed, or customer service.

The grass is always greener until you make it over the fence. Then you realize that the green spot was fertilized by a cow pie.
