“The premise is rather like Apple’s Nike + iPod system for runners except for cyclists,” Purcher reports. “While the system is for individuals, it’s also designed to work with teams of cyclists so that they could communicate with each other on-the-fly about course difficulty or perceived problems.”

Purcher reports, “The bicycle system monitors speed, distance, time, altitude, elevation, incline, decline, heart rate, power, derailleur setting, cadence, wind speed, path completed, expected future path, heart rate, power, and pace. The system could utilize various sensors built-into the iPhone in addition to working with sensors already built-into the bike itself. Apple’s patent is extraordinarily detailed and packed with interesting twists that the sporting cyclist will really appreciate.”

  1. When Apple Computer declared it becoming a Consumer Electronics Manufacturer Ala Sony and chsnged it’s name to now Apple Inc. , it meant business. We have witnessed to date an impeccable transition with home run after home run of hit conser products. This I’d just Apple Inc. In it’s infancy.

By the time this sinks in to the small second guessing minds of the dumb so called technology analysts and pumdits, Apple will be an empire.

And we were there for the ride.

    Wow!!!

  2. Forget the bike. Apple should team up with (or even buy) Tesla Motors, and make an “Apple Smart Car” (obviously electric). ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

(Tesla Motors HQ is even in Steve’s home town, Palo Alto.)

The words “heart rate is mentioned 11 times in the report and twice in the introduction alone.

“The Bicycle system monitors speed, distance, time, altitude, elevation, incline, decline, heart rate, power, derailleur setting, cadence, wind speed, path completed, expected future path, heart rate, power, and pace.”
