Melissa Singer reports for The Sydney Morning Herald, “Maybe their mobile signal is weaker, or maybe our hands are just smaller?”

“Apple customers who queued through wind, rain and their lunch breaks to snap up the new iPhone 4 were almost disappointed to learn their mobiles were not succumbing to the ‘death grip’ that caused signal problems and corporate embarrassment for Apple in the United States,” Singer reports.
Singer reports, “Like the fizzle after the Y2K bug in 2000, many Australian iPhone users have been left wondering what all the fuss was about.”

They have minds of their own, wow!
They got the fixed ones.
Rollex: You mean the Australian iPhones have been neutered??
It is a press issue…. Is the free case program being extended to other counties or just the US?

1. Shoddy american sensationalist reporting.
2. Blog writers whoring themselves to make a buck and get readers to your site.
3. Trolls and spoiled consumers that bitch about everything and are happy with nothing.
4. FUD by competitors.
That’s what the fuss was about. Did I miss anything?
Free case is a go for Canadians.
Kind of makes me wonder if this is somehow another AT&T issue.
It’s because the death grip is in a different location.. everything’s backwards in Australia remember.
Jim:
BINGO !!!!!!!!!
AT&T
@ tws:
Upside down, not backwards!

This may mean that Steve Jobs has actually re-engineered and fixed the faulty antenna.
I want one of the ones that has been fixed. Mine will not send, receive, or maintain phone calls. Anywhere – no matter how I hold it. I’ve taken it to the Geniuses and to the ATT clowns and they say nothing is wrong with it.
It just doesn’t work so it must be the failure of a properly designed antenna. The Apple retail store says they will exchange it but they don’t have any recent deliveries so it is unlikely they have one of the type that is being distributed internationally – yet.
Or it could be that we Aussies are benefitting from very strong competition from 3 (down from 4 since Vodafone took over Hutchison/3) 3G networks all with national coverage.
It has been confirmed that the Australians have very small hands.
Or it could be that there never was a problem…
“They got the fixed ones.”
The US of A – 5% of the world’s population — 95% of the world’s lawsuits. THAT’S why there appears to not be a problem. Australian’s aren’t whining about moving one finger a quarter of inch to improve reception. (Nooooooo. Whiiiine. I want to put my finger on THAT exact spot.)
Maybe if they hold the phone upside down the signal bars will fade!!!
Oh yeah…. They got the fixes ones. Good for them!
The iPhone works fine, what Americans need are bumpers for protection against their journalists!
@Renaldo
That was good, LMAO!
“It has been confirmed that the Australians have very small hands.”
You know what they say: “Small hands – huge wieners!”
Ah…Australia. Where men are still men, and the sheep know it.
Because Australia is below the equator the death grip is actually at the upper right of the iPhone.
Well, I think that could be the official fix in the next or mid-release iPhone which is the antenna will be place at the top instead of the bottom. I’m not sure a simple “coating” will fix the problem.
