Australia’s Telstra gives Apple iPhone 4 award for ‘best coverage performance’

“Many people have asked us about how they can get the best coverage performance from the iPhone 4 when it launches on Friday. So we’ve assembled some tips based on our Next G network testing,” Richard Fink blogs for Telstra. “The first thing to know is that the iPhone 4, without the use of accessories, is approved by Telstra for handheld use in metro and major regional coverage areas.”

“The great news for our regional and rural customers is that an approved rubberised bumper or case can help to maximise the coverage performance of the iPhone 4,” Fink reports. “In fact, the handheld coverage performance is improved so that it is equivalent to one of our Telstra ‘Blue Tick’ devices.”

Fink reports, “We award our Blue Tick to mobiles that have the best coverage performance and recommend them to customers working or living in regional and rural coverage areas… To help maximise coverage performance in metro and major regional areas, Telstra recommends that customers team their iPhone 4 with an approved rubberised bumper or case.”

  1. Listening to the radio yesterday morning, it was interesting to note how this phone was being touted by Telstra in their radio ads as the “Telstra iPhone 4”.

And hearing one of their PR people predict that long lines of fans would form outside Telstra shops and other “locations in Chatswood and George Street, Sydney”. The latter being the first two Apple Stores in Australia.

Wonder why no mention of “Apple”?

  2. Because telstra is paying for the ad. Try asking apple marketing to do an ad on the radio… They’ll say no in a milli second.

At least they know how bad the t-hub is, compared with the iPad. What telstra needs to do is produce a stand with a phone and an app, that would connect with the iPad, and hence be the t-hub 2.

They’ll make more from that then selling a t-hub with such small margins
