“Apple has just released the newest beta of iPhone OS 4.0, and it comes with a long-overdue feature: Internet tethering from AT&T,” Ben Parr reports for Mashable.
“Tethering was first revealed as a feature of the iPhone last year with the iPhone OS 3.0,” Parr reports. “However, while some international carriers supported Internet tethering, AT&T did not because its network couldn’t support the wireless traffic.”
Parr reports, “The inclusion of tethering in the iPhone OS 4.0 beta doesn’t necessarily mean that it will actually come with the final version of iPhone OS 4.0. However, it’s the best sign yet that AT&T is finally getting its act together.”

MacDailyNews Take: We’ll believe it when we see it. This shouldn’t preclude any and all class action lawsuits that any AT&T iPhone customers might want to file against AT&T for misleading customers about iPhone tethering. There are many frivolous class action lawsuits in the U.S., but this wouldn’t be one of them. AT&T should be made to pay for disingenuously promising tethering to tens of millions of prospective buyers and then not delivering. Please see related articles below.
