Apple Online Store“Here’s a deal for automotive and electronics lovers alike: Buy a new Apple iPad for more than $50,000 and Hyundai will throw in a free luxury car,” Chris Woodyard reports for USA Today.

“That pitch wouldn’t be too far-fetched now that Hyundai’s announced today at the New York auto show that its new flagship luxury car, the Equus, will come with an iPad slate-style computer instead of a printed owners manual,” Woodyard reports. “All the features on the new Equus will be contained in the iPad for quick reference, but owners can use it for any of it’s other features as well. Hyundai Motor America CEO John Krafcik referred to the iPad as an ‘interactive’ owners manual.”

“Including an iPad in the luxury car will up the car’s gotta-have factor, predicts William Matthies of research firm Coyote Insight, who follows developments in automotive electronics,” Woodyard reports. “‘Many will respond positively to the inclusion of an iPad, not because they needed or planned to buy one, but simply because it is topical and cool,’ Matthies says.”

Woodyard reports, “The iPad, which goes on sale Saturday nationwide starting at $499, is on the leading edge of a new breed of tablet computers and electronic readers.”
