Steve Jobs wins approval to apply for permit to demolish his ‘dump’ of a house – again

“A judge has approved computer magnate Steve Jobs’ long-delayed plan to tear down his mansion in Woodside and build a smaller home on the wooded property. But a preservation group is hoping for a last-minute agreement to relocate the 85-year-old house,” Bob Egelko reports for The San Francisco Chronicle.

“The Woodside Town Council first approved his application for a demolition permit in 2004. The council said the building was a historic resource but agreed with Jobs that restoring it would be expensive and economically unworkable,” Egelko reports. “But a group called Save Our Heritage went to court and blocked the demolition. A San Mateo County judge and an appellate court agreed that Jobs had failed to show that tearing the house down was his only practical option.”

Egelko reports, “Jobs then submitted more information to the Town Council, which held public hearings and approved another demolition permit in May 2009. Superior Court Judge Marie Weiner, who had rejected the previous plan, upheld the council’s decision this week.”

“Jobs has also tried for four years to find someone who would relocate and restore the mansion, Weiner said,” Egelko reports. “Her ruling allows Jobs to apply for a demolition permit. Town Manager Susan George said Friday that officials would need some time to review the permit and would require Jobs to save objects of historic interest from the building and turn them over to the town.”

  1. “Jobs would be required to save anything of historic interest and turn them over to the town”

Daaaaaam, I was gonna eBay that shiite!

So basically these wackadoodle “preservationist” busybodies get to assume ownership of private property and determine its fate.

The takeaway here is that you should never move to Woodside! Loads of trophy wives with no real job that need a place to drive their Land Rovers.

  2. @ dijonaise,

I had the same thought about the confiscation of private property. How friggin’ deplorable!

Hell Steve, just put an ad on Craigslist with the address and instructions to take whatever you want. The vultures would strip that dump in a heartbeat.

And while your at it put in the address of that San Mateo County judge. Little piss-ant in a robe!

  3. Jobs should have explosives put all throughout and around that dump of a house, historic my a$$, and have the explosives wired to a prank your friends “hand buzzer” device to set it off. After he won court approval, Steve should have gone over to those protesting “wackadoodle “preservationist” busybodies” and shook hands! ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”tongue wink” style=”border:0;” />

  4. Have those a-holes on the board come up with the money to pay for all these delays and crap like that. I would have left a few candles burning near curtains four Christmases ago. Fools. Mr. Jobs – build your dream-house. I hope it won’t be as ostentatious as Mr. W. Gates monster. Just very Ive’s like. Have him design it. He knows what you like.

  5. @The cause of California’s problems

Actually I believer the Historical Conservation Society blocking Steve Jobs are mostly conservatives.

    Call it a hunch. Something ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

  6. I thought Steve was going to pay 600 grand so someone could move the heap off of the property. What the hell happened to that plan?

Someone needs to advertise this house as a place to stay to the drunken homeless bums in the nearby city. The house wouldn’t last a week…

  7. Steve, enough already. Deed the house over to the historical society. Let them come up with the money to restore/preserve it.

You take a loss by deed it over. So what. Spend the money to go find another dream piece of property and build your dream house.

You are spending too much of your precious time you have left on this earth to be wasting it fighting these people. So what it cost a million dollars. Your time and sanity are worth far more.

  8. “Town Manager Susan George said Friday that officials… would require Jobs to save objects of historic interest from the building and turn them over to the town.”

Because, in our more enlighten and progressive times, concepts such as the rights of individuals and property rights are passe.

They’re just so 16th century, you know.

  9. “The judge has approved Jobs applying for demolition. What does that mean, exactly? You have to get “approval” just to apply for something? That’s crazy…”

This gives these losers something to do for another couple of months while they slurp at the public trough. Don’t worry, soon there will be tens of thousands more government workers getting their unearned swill from “The Chosen One”. Plus they’ll all get, (I didn’t write ‘earn’), more than hard workers in the public sector. Plus 90% retirements after a few years. Total socialism. Vote them out or we’re doomed.

  10. @HMCIV “Actually I believer the Historical Conservation Society blocking Steve Jobs are mostly conservatives.”

LOL, just because “Conservation” is in the groups title does not imply that it is enjoined by mostly conservatives!

That’s just liberal think that doesn’t make sense… Kind of like implying that the Democratic party is in favor of Democracy! ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”LOL” style=”border:0;” />

  11. California’s problems are legion, but the causes are simple:
1- They pay a negative tax to Uncle Sam and have longer than any of us have been alive. The Southern and Plains states that speak so often against welfare and brag of self reliance get back way more than they pay in- essentially welfare states. Mississippi gets back well over $2 for every $1 they send to D.C., yet they bitch about socialism and send Republicans to Congress.
2- Prop 13, pushed by Republican Howard Jarvis, capped property taxes and has starved schools and other operations dependent upon them for decades. This has forced the state to spend monies to offset the loss in revenues to schools and other public services dependent upon them.
3- The Feds inability to regulate our borders has allowed a continuous influx of illegal immigrants that pay no income or property taxes- yet drain scarce funds for schools, housing, healthcare, etc.
4- The Feds opening the floodgates of immigration with the family rules has also disproportionally affected California. LA Public schools has to deal with children who speak minimal English and literally dozens of languages.
5- Stupid and harsh drug laws have exploded the California Penal System to an unsustainable degree. Republicans always advocate tough laws and sentencing, but balk at paying for Prisons and their operation.
6- The Republicans pushed through a law making it almost impossible to increase taxes as a practical matter- regardless of need or consequences.

So much for the problems being liberal policies.

Steve Jobs owns the property, has acted in good faith, has complied with the process and has been more than patient. The preservationists couldn’t find the funds or a person willing to pay for relocation of the house when Jobs offered to give it away.

The process has been followed and it’s way past time to let him tear the Jackling house down and build his new home.

  12. california is one very weird place…i live it everyday….you can’t do anything in this state…..there are some many stupid people that have smoked dope all their lives and they control the place….just look at what the people of california have sent to washington dc….this effing state is so socialistic that it drive every business out of the state….wonder if that had anything to do with Apple going to ….where…north carolina….or was it south carolina….this state is actually falling behind new york…because as of today, they are going to try to ban salt in restaurants….ny got one up on ca….unbeliveable…how could that happen in this state of fruits and nuts….screw the house saving people…and screw california…well…the people here have spoken…they screw themselves daily….and they aren’t getting glassy eyed about it either…
