Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer to host Windows Phone press conference on February 15

Microsoft has announced that their CEO Steve Ballmer, whom we hope remains Microsoft’s CEO for as long as it takes, will host a press conference to discuss Windows phones at Mobile World Congress 2010 on February 15 (President’s Day in the U.S.; financial markets are closed).

MacDailyNews Take: You know, because users are clamoring for the world’s most bloated, insecure, cartoonish, and unintuitive OS to be crammed into clunky hardware powered by inferior mobile processors.

The press conference and live webcast will take place in Barcelona, Spain at Mobile World Congress 2010 on Monday, February 15 at 3-4 pm CET.

The live webcast can be viewed here.

  1. @ MAcCanuck

Copying new product lines several years too late is exactly what M$ do. And when they do it the results are so bad that they lose money.

    Here’s some examples:
Xbox – the units themselves sell close to cost
    Zune – went nowhere
Window mobile – not very good and has now lost the battle
MSN / Bing – both suck
    Windows table – joke

It’s only the Windows and Office monopoly that are keeping them afloat. If they lose more share in the next 5 years then they won’t have that to rely on.

  2. So, Apple moves on to help direct the tablet computing revolution and MS now decides that it’s got to talk about smart phones? Wow, the amazing business sense at MS is astounding! It always amazes me when people say what an innovative company MS is because a simple observation like this proves the opposite.

  3. Steve Jobs has said that Apple is about 3-5 years ahead of the competition. So the time is right for Balmer to comment on the iPhone (1st version, not the 3GS). You’ll have to wait for 2014 before they talk about the iPad.

  4. “Remember the iPhone from 2007… well, stop thinking about it for just a second… I want you to imagine that you’ve never used that phone before…

Bald guy who worked on the Xbox, show em the Zunephone!”

  5. MDN and most of its commentators have the be the most paranoid group of Apple fanboys that exist on the internet. Why you find it so necessary to belittle Microsoft at every perceived opportunity is beyond me. Its a bit like a grade school taunt – My Dad can beat up your Dad. Grow-up.

  6. I think Ballmer is great. I hope they keep him as CEO for many years. There’s nothing better than a directionless Microsoft. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

  7. Does anyone realize that Ballmer will be speaking in English to a Spanish speaking audience. Will they understand him?

It will seem like gibberish… then again, even if speaking in Spanish, it will seem like gibberish.

Oh, Steve, sorry, but I won’t be able to make the event. I already had plans to search for the part in my hair (something I guess you don’t have to worry about) that day.

    Oh well.

  8. aah Barcelona the heartland of silicon Innovation I believe, or more notable perhaps for and ruffians on scooters who steal the cash from your pocket and Cathedrals that take centuries to build and remain as yet decidedly incomplete, now what does that remind me of? However it IS the centre of ‘Bull’fighting and no doubt we shall be getting plenty of that from Mr Ballmer after a long rant of hyped nonsense, re-writing of history and overblown expectations and perhaps more importantly a brief interlude of dad salsa dancing to lighten the mood. Someone hopefully will put him to the sword… or perhaps preferably not.
