Given the massive 2008-2009 press coverage of the Steve Jobs illness story, it’s interesting that very few journalists or bloggers noticed that Apple’s CEO appeared much healthier at last week’s iPad announcement.
It was clear, at least to me, that he’s gained some weight. Not a lot, but noticeable.
Take a look at Steve from a still frame shot of last Wednesday’s iPad event compared to a similarly-framed still shot from the September, 2009 iPod event (both frames were pulled from Apple’s own Quicktime videos). It certainly appears he’s put on some pounds.
He had previously mentioned he needed to gain some weight and it seems that he’s succeeding. He also appears to have a more robust skin tone, though that’s hard to trust given variations in stage lighting between the two events.
This is really a testament to Steve’s ability to engage an audience. We were all so fixated on the iPad that we didn’t look very closely at him.
Did anyone attending the iPad event notice Steve’s weight gain?

@Fred Mertz
That was kind of the point. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />
That particular blog of mine is purposefully factually incorrect. Hell half of the letters I write for it are complete BS
Sorry, but looking healthier doesn’t create a traffic generating headline, nor does it allow day traders and shorts to drive down stock prices the their advantage.
Cynical, but so true
Theory: No-one noticed steve’s health because Tim Cook and Team already showed that Apple is not entirely dependant on him for it’s survival anymore ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />
Steve looks snappier!
‘…story EVERYONE missed last week…’
Not true. 1-2pm time slot on Fox Business Network on cable
was exclusively devoted to Jobs’ live presentation of the iPad.
The hosts commented that Jobs looked a lot healthier and
seemed to have gained weight.
compared to the iPad he was holding!
I noticed – first thing as a matter of fact. That’s just the doctor in me coming out.
@Monger,
” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”LOL” style=”border:0;” />
I just want steve to start eating some nice Salmon with all the omega 3 fatty acids and whey protein shakes. Then I would get him in the gym and make him lift weights to bulk up and get a rocking six pack.
Rock on Steve Jobs. Please hurry with the availability of the iPad. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />
I thought he still looked rather thin, but it’s obvious from the MDN pics that he’s looking better.
@PR, lol, yes, it does look like his hair isn’t as grey as before, and before jumping to any conclusions, this could very well be due to improved health, not hair coloring. I doubt Jobs would do that.
Hail to the King baby! – Randy Savage
I think he still looks really thin; but as long as he keeps on ticking, he can look any way he wants to.
It was actually the first thing I noticed.
It’s the ice cream.
Less gray hair too. Do I have to get a liver transplant to do that?
He did look much better, and his voice also sounded better than the last time. It was the first thing I noticed. I thought he was back to his old form, RDF and all…
Actually, that was the first think I noticed. I don’t think he’s gained much weight, but he does look a bit healthier. I think his hair looked more gray before because it was a bit longer–it’s the way the light hits it.
I’m not very religious, but I can’t pray enough for Steve to stay alive and healthy. He has brought the world so much. I had serious fears that “Only the good die young.” was going to come true again.
Glad he is still here to amaze us. Bless you a million times Steve. Live long and prosper.
+100 to what Mac Raven said.
a) I f****ing LOL’d at “iPadding”
b) He really hasn’t gained THAT much weight. Steve should try beer as a weight gain alternative. Beer, McDonalds, and you know…all the stuff the rest of the country is eating.
must be all the ice cream
Heck, Jobs can just hit the chips & guacamole…he’ll stay vegetarian & avocados have the “healthy” fats…
I did notice. In fact, the first thing I said to myself when I pulled up the video was, “Steve’s looking better.” His voice did not sound as frail, either.
Mac haters also notice Steve Jobs’ health improvement and so have no bullets to shoot at him from this angle; instead they attack the iPad with all the vitriol at their disposal.
We’re gonna destroy that anoxeric biatch!
