Apple again kicks Palm Pre moocher off iTunes

Apple Online Store Apple released iTunes 9.0.2 yesterday. The update brings new compatibility with Apple TV 3.0 software and, oh by the way, it also booted the Palm Pre moocher off iTunes, again. Last month beleaguered Palm was told by the USB Forum to stop spoofing unique vendor IDs reserved for Apple iPod models in order to sync with iTunes instead of offering their own software to simply and legally interface with Apple’s intellectual property.

What a great feature beleaguered Palm’s hodgepodge of Apple castoffs offer their Pre sufferers: Intermittent and unreliable iTunes syncing. What a selling point! This, along with near total App-Lack™, an antique mechanical keyboard that’s perpetually stuck in vertical mode, no modern soft keyboard at all, a cheap plastic screen that’s reportedly quite the nasty scratch magnet, and flimsy, junky-feeling overall build-quality – all backed by a boondoggle that’s so running on fumes that they can’t even manage to come up with their own simple-to-create software to legally sync with iTunes. No wonder Palm’s collection of Apple refuse are having trouble peddling their crappy, app-less fake iPhones.

RIM’s BlackBerry Media Sync is the prime example of the proper, ethical way to sync non-Apple devices with iTunes (and Windows Media Player) music files.

Will beleaguered Palm try to take the cheap, unethical way out yet again? Probably so, as they seem to have nothing much left to lose.

  1. Some smart Palm user should file a suite against Palm for Advertising Fraud and demand their money back plus extraordinary damages because they knowingly market a feature that they could not deliver. $1500.00 for each and every Palm Pre owner.

  2. Why isn’t the USB Forum doing something about this?

If Palm are breaking the rules and their agreements and USB standards they need to be told to stop. And not by Apple, but by the standards authorities!

Otherwise, it opens the door to other companies doing similar unethical tricks and we’ll have chaos.

  3. Did you see the “iDon’t” campaign from Verizon to introduce the “Droid”? there is an answer to that in youtube called “iDon’t Care” go watch it.

Every person that I have asked about why they pick up a Android or Nokia or Samsumg phone over the iPhone they say:
“I can replace the battery if it draws off”.
    so I ask them:
“Can you show me the replacement battery?”
they said, no, I don’t have one. So what is the point of picking up a phone just because you can replace the battery if you are not planning to do it?

Background applications is another factor, they said they can run background apps, so I ask them to show me one background app and they always showing a mp3 player, just as the iPhone plays music in the background too. So they open another app like a game and then open the mp3 player or the agenda, so I ask them, “what’s the point of having that game in the background if you can’t play it since you only have one screen?”

Verizon is playing with stupidity whit those adds.

  4. troy: Verizon is addressing a need that does not exist but the every cull-able consumer does not understand that the need does not exist. So Verizon will sell a fair amount of these things to consumers who, like most things, have not through the process.

  5. I have phone the iPhone and the Pre. Pre sucks. It can only hope to hold the iPhone’s jockstrap. I run my offices from my iPhone and the Pre is what I used to communicate with clients. I keep the iPhone with me at all times and don’t need the nutjobs calling me. Now that is out of the way, who cares if it can sync with iTunes? Would a music player give people more of a reason to purchase music? You can get music to the Pre through finder/explorer so it is not like it breaks music altogether. Even it the Pre was twice as good as it is now, it would still suck compared to the iPhone. I want it to behave so much better, but it doesn’t. All of the complaints the iPhone had for what it didn’t do at launch two years ago are ten fold with the Pre. If Palm got off its ass and did something like this four years ago when Palm OS was in it fourth year of the same interface, then it would be something better now. But it is not even an imitator. It is just merely “okay”. And Android phones are dumb. Just can’t get into them.

Yes, I have the iPower or something like that, it is a shell where you slide your iPhone and add a very little thickness but also adds one or 2 days extra charge for $50. You don’t need to open the iPhone. it is easier than replacing the batt in a a normal cheap phone. Cheap phones form Nokia and LG you need to buy a new battery every year. iPhone Battery last up to 3 years (I have the EDGE iphone with the original battery) so what’s Verizon claims as a disadvantage from the iPhone’s Battery, its actually a great feature that other phones don’t have and many morons don’t undestand.

    Think Different !
