“I’m not a fan of protective screen covers for PDAs or mobile devices. After all, the purpose of a touch screen is to touch it. As a result, my iPhone 3G has gone unprotected in my pocket since day one and only has a couple of minor scratches on it–nothing noticeable. In addition, my iPhone 3G has taken quite a few tumbles onto concrete, rocks, snow and ice,” Joel Evans reports for Geek.com.

MacDailyNews Note: Apple’s iPhone, iPhone 3G, and soon-to-be released iPhone 3G S all feature optical-quality glass screens to achieve superior levels of scratch resistance and optical clarity.

Evans continues, “Enter the Palm Pre. I’ve been carrying it around in my pocket on and off since Saturday and took it out this evening to make a quick call. That’s when I noticed how scratched up it had become. The worst part about the scratches is that they’re more than just surface–you can actually feel the scratches when you rub your finger over them. I can only imagine that this will soon detract from the touch screen experience.”
