RUMOR: Steve Jobs’ health declining rapidly, reason for MacWorld Expo cancellation – Gizmodo

“According to a previously reliable source, Apple misrepresented the reasons behind MacWorld and Jobs’ keynote cancellation,” Jesus Diaz reports for Gizmodo. “The real cause is his rapidly declining health. In fact, it may be even worse than we ever imagined:”

Steves health is rapidly declining. Apple is choosing to remove the hype factor strategically vs letting the hype destroy apple when the inevitable news comes later this spring.

This strategic loss will be less of a bang with investors. This is why MacWorld is a no-go anymore. No more Steve means no more hype. Saying they are no longer needing [MacWorld] is the cover designed by the worldwide “loyalty” department.

Diaz reports, “This source has repeatedly been 100% correct before. Those times, however, were always related to news and images of unreleased Apple products. I can only hope that, in this more personal matter, it is absolutely wrong and this just means that Steve Jobs is retiring according to his plan.”

MacDailyNews Take: “I can tell you that sources inside the company tell me that Jobs’ decision was more about politics than his pancreas. Sources tell me that if Jobs for some reason was unable to perform any of his responsibilities as CEO because of health reasons, which would include the Macworld keynote, I should ‘rest assured that the board would let me know.'” – Jim Goldman, CNBC, December 16, 2008

  1. Total BS and obviously so. I see most are buying it though, which is good for a laugh I guess.

Here’s a big hint for you. When it comes to hoaxes and conspiracies, one of the chief identifying features is the identification of “cover stories” that are in fact the most logical explanation. i.e. – an apparent picture of a UFO is explained by a camera fault that is then demonstrated to be a fault and is even reproducible is explained as a “cover story” for the fact that a “real” UFO was photographed.

In this case, the highly logical, easy to find back-up for, and totally believable FACT that the trade shows are no longer profitable for Apple, and the FACT that they have been slowly scaling back their participation at same for a while now are somehow a “cover story” to Gizmodo.

Also, you have to factor in the fact that Gizmodo is a bunch of teenagers and social misfits that are constantly firing up the rumour mill over nothing. They have an absolutely lousy track record on predicting the future.

  2. MDN is no better than Gizmodo, or any of the other rumor mongers. They may call it reporting, but in actuality they are enablers of the rumor mill. Web sites like MDN and Gizmodo do not report the news, they make it up and ‘call it’ news.

The one ugly side effect of giving anybody with a computer access to the internet, is that we get unsubstantiated and unfounded rumors. The perpetuators of those rumors are just as bad, maybe worse, as the original authors. They claim such articles should be avoided, but post them nevertheless.

  3. U DELUSIONAL DESPERATE IGNORANT obssesed Mac FREAK – just the addition of fish doesn’t stop his still DUMB overall highly nutrionally UNBALANCED diet incresing his chances of relapse by an order of magnitude – and oh! look the god complex fcuk-wit won’t live to see another new year 😀

  4. Sorry that your mind has regressed into that of a SPASTICATED CHILD but your INDENIAL BITTERNESS at your (HEINIOUS choice of) idol’s PREMAURE shuffling off mortal coil, is so REPUGNANT, the immense suffering you will endure in the new year with the anouncement of his (existence ceased ) condition may make you grow up one day… though i doubt it considering the degree your head is warped with sick fanatiscism 🙁

( while Stev B will continues to be able to enjoy his life and FAMILY for most likely a long time to come ,whilst LAUGHING all the way to the bank as he MERCIFULLY steers MILLIONS of computers buyers away from DIABOLICAL, the CRAZED FANATIC choice, Mac…. )

  5. I have to respond to this although it is quite late in the comments.

I am heading to CES this year for our convention. There has been a dinner cancelled with someone in our organization due to Steve’s failing health. This simply isn’t a rumor. Prediction is Steve will be gone in 6 months. I know it is painful to hear. Spend all your life building a company only to leave during it’s coming of age. He will be remembered as a industry leader and a great entrepreneur. MDN if you can ical my remark please do. Within six months!

  6. Mactacular…

So what you’re saying is that a scheduled meeting with Steve Jobs involving someone in your company was scheduled because he or one of his underlings rang up or sent an e-mail saying “Sorry, can’t make it, appear to be shuffling off this mortal coil”.

I can’t help but say that this seems just a little unlikely, but I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you’re not just trolling based on some strange agenda.

  7. It’s pretty obvious by the giant flame war on all threads about this topic that this is another hoax inspired by the less-than-capable mind of Jesus Diaz at Gizmodo. He’s done it before and he’ll do it again.

For those of us that know for a fact that Steve Jobs is fine, it’s especially obvious. For instance the guy posting as “Mactacular” is telling a story in a heartfelt, realistic way that is 100% bullsh*t. So why is he doing that?

It’s another Gizmodo hoax, and people are *gaming* this and other forums to “give it legs,” sort of speak. This is why you shouldn’t believe anything you read on a site run by teenagers.

  8. MDN: Please stop giving these hoaxes the time of day on your site. You’re not helping anything, and you’re only giving BS artists such as Mactacular a forum for spreading more lies.

MW: “hit whores” (ok, not really, but considering what MDN is doing, it oughta be)

  9. > BS artists such as Mactacular

… not much of a “artist” if the best he or she can come up with is “Steve Jobs is REALLY REALLY sick because a co-worker told me that he was planning to go all the way to CES at Las Vegas for dinner but he cancelled.”

  10. Sorry you guys can’t, even by now, see through all the trickery and deceit that Apple will use to protect its profits – of course they don’t give a damn how much their propaganda screws you share guys over.

Seeing Steve in his death bed, coughing up his guts YOU KNOW he will want to spend his last few days on this earth with his family – may his suffering soon been over.

    R.I.P. a family man….

  11. Well of coarse I think we ALL hope Steve is alright but if not there is nothing we can do so let’s just relax and wait and see.

I am POSITIVE Steve has worked all of this out long ago as to what happens in a worse case senerio….

He’ll be in control in death too to a certain extent.

  12. @ Eckert the BierKönig.

    > Why doesn’t Jobs go on a newscast and make a statement live on camera? End of rumor, right?

Because all of this speculation and free media attention (worth tens of millions of dollars) is exactly what Apple wants. And they will get it, and monopolize all the tech media coverage through the holiday weekend into early next week.
