Last night, The Simpsons took on Steve Jobs (“Steve Mobs”) and Apple with a visit to the Springfield Mall’s brand spankin’ new “Mapple Store.”

While there, Lisa gets her very own “myPod.”

That is awesome. It’s obvious that the Simpsons’ writing staff knows their Apple history. They are Apple fans, poking fun at Apple, not Apple critics. A “critic” wouldn’t know about the history behind 90% of those jokes.

Anyway, for the un-American part, I’m not sure which side of the plate MDN is swinging from. Some clarification, please.

This site’s Leftward angle is well established, and handouts are a pillar of the Left. People who are foolish enough to commit actual work aren’t part of the program, and they need to be penalized (i.e. taxed). Unless of course they’re farmers or union members, then the government programs and guaranteed pension plans make up for it.

That’s all true. No UK access from Hula, whatever that is. Torrents to the rescue however.
Wow, that’s savage! I’m seriously schizo about whether it’s funny or not though…
In this household, we’ve long grown tired of endless old Simpsons re-runs and tranferred our affections to the magnificent Family Guy- doubtlessly also old re-runs specially packaged for the UK but mostly new to us and hilarious. The episode where Brits take over the Clam had me weeping….
Consquently, it was interesting to see a brand new Simpsons show. Are they past their sell-by date?

People who do not use Macs do not understand that it is very hard to use a Mac without becoming a fanboy, and sometimes the fanboys are the only thing standing between a potential customer and a Mac. This parody made fun of the Apple culture, brought Apple down to earth, and therefore functioned as a commercial. I’m sure Apple was very pleased with it, and I’m sure that is why there were so many Apple commercials with that episode.

Whether or not “The Simpsons” has jumped the shark or is still funny is beside the point. The show has an audience, that is all that matters for an ad.

That said, I’ve noticed that Apple has somehow found the secret of making products that evoke love. It’s a good thing they don’t make sex toys, or we’d be extinct in one generation.

@ugh – Looney Tunes cartoons are totally different humor than the Simpsons.
Looney Tunes was slapstick mayhem. Sight gags.
The Simpsons is mostly satire.
A totally different type of humor and cartoons.
(And remember most Looney Tunes cartoons were filler cartoons shown before the main feature at the movie. They ran from 1933 to about 1944. It had a different purpose than the Simpsons. You could not run Looney Tunes-type cartoons in the same TV time slot as the Simpsons – it would not last a season.)

It takes more than a visual gag (the backbone of Looney Tunes cartoons) in the Simpsons to make the humor.
For example, If someone who had no idea about Apple computer, Steve Jobs, the cult following of Apple had watched this “Mapple” epsiode of the Simpsons it would be beyond un-funny.
You either get the jokes (and references) in the Simpsons or you don’t.

This goes beyond just admiring Apple. Apple deserves a great deal of admiration. What is going on here though is pure, unadulterated, worship. The label “fanboy” has never been better applied than it is here.

I reject your assertion that I am sanctimonious. I am simply pointing out what I see. The sarcasm in the Simpsons episode is spot on, and Apple is guilty of the sin of believing their own BS.

If anything the sanctimony comes from those here and elsewhere that seem to believe that Apple can do no wrong.

I don’t know where you get your info, but who told you Apple can do no wrong? I think you have the wrong perception.

Most people’s posts that I’ve read here and other sites are Mac users that reserve judgement and can be very critical of the “Mothership”. Just because we’re Mac users, doesn’t mean we think Apple can do no wrong. In some cases, we are most critical of Apple because we see potential in the leadership of the company, where Apple has been, and how technology will shape what lies ahead.

By the way, shareholders are typically a company’s biggest critics, in good times and bad.

Finally, I think you clearly misread the sarcasm and wit on that episode of Simpsons, and mistook it as a bash against Apple, while many here have shown it to be a very probable tongue-in cheek admiration. It is with people like you in mind that Zune Tang spells Iphone and MAC, but I guess you’d miss that as well.

Anyway, you sir, meanwhile, have just been publicly ridiculed, in case you missed that point as well. And I’m not feeling good about it myself, albeit you brought it upon yourself, I fear.

I agree with above. You have really got to get your sense of humours back you need to relax and enjoy yourself stop worrying about having to be what your society expects you to be. Oh and it wasn’t dated it was very funny I enjoyed it and every episode. You are the one that appears dated. It’s only entertainment
