Transmission is very reliable, with lots of good features that don’t get in your way, but are there if you need them. And its UI fits beautifully with OS X. Hard to think of a better torrent app for the Mac.

The µTorrent folks have plenty of catching up to do – and more power to ’em! The better they make their Mac version, the more good Mac apps we have to select from, which is always a good thing.

Since nobody’s posted linky for Transmission yet: http://www.transmissionbt.com/

  2. I use Transmission on my Mac atm but I primarily use uTorrent and nothing beats it… it’s like Transmission and Vuse mixed together and gives me all the power I need out of a torrent program without taking over half of my processor… I can’t wait for it 😀

  3. You seriously telling me I can go back to 2002 on my new MacBook! Wow! Can’t wait to be part of the “swarm!” Maybe I can be lucky enough to pick up a new Limewire, Kazaa or Napster client as well!?! Hopefully I’ll finally be able to dump this Transmission program that’s just been working perfectly?

You know it’s worth saying that that Mr. Balmer sure does attract the brightest of the bunch to his platforms…I hope he is able to “lead” forever!

  4. Xtorrent has nice search, and I started out with XTorrent.
However with more then a dozen or so torrents in the repos. it becomes an unstable CPU hog. It can hang itself up over nothing.
I have yet to see Transmission do that. It’s way more reliable!

  5. Hey guys, thanks for all the recommendations for Transmission. I’m trying it out now, and so far I’m liking it better than Vuse (Azureus). Too early to tell on just one torrent but so far the d/l speed is better than anything Vuse ever did, and the U/I is way less overwhelming.

  6. Transmission is the best:

    1. Download Torrent File from your favourite site.
    2. Launch Transmission and if you have set it to watch download folder, torrent will automatically start to download.
    3. Wait for download to finish.
    4. Enjoy your warez!

    Can’t be better than that.

  7. I’ve been doing speed tests with both transmission and uTorrent and so far uTorrent is about 15% faster.

I agree with most people when they say just stick with transmission but…

Transmission isn’t the most tracker friendly app out there. (well it’s getting there now but at first Transmission was being banned from a lot of trackers). But I think it’s growing pains are over.

  8. Well, now with more testing on more torrents I can say that longer test has shown Transmission to catch up and surpass uTorrent in speed.

I will now say with confidence that Transmission is still king but….

uTorrent is still a beta and Transmission was very ruff in it’s early stages as well, so we shall see.

  9. I like Transmission, especially for its clean elegance. But I always come back to XTorrent, which has a nice UI as well. Yes, it seems to get wonky over time, but dang I like its search feature. Although I used Azureus for quite a while, I really dislike it. Am I missing something about Transmission? Can it find torrents?

P.S. Does anyone know of a torrent app that castrates Comcast?
