Apple releases Remote 1.1 for iPhone and iPod touch; adds Genius support

Apple today updated their free iPhone and iPod touch app Remote to version 1.1 which allows users to:

- Create and update Genius playlists
- Create and edit playlists in iTunes

With Remote, users can control the music on their computer or Apple TV from their iPod touch or iPhone.

Play, pause, skip, or shuffle. See your songs, playlists, and ab=lbum art on your iPod touch or iPhone as if you were right in front of your computer.

I hear that… Every time I read reviews of an App, I feel like throwing up.

Apple needs to put a serious policy in place that only allows people WHO BOUGHT THE APP (which means they have used it as well) to write a review.

I am so sick of reading people’s BS “opinions” on something they have never used– or giving it a low rating because they think “$5.99 is too much”.

Apple should seriously enforce this, and I’m sure developers are saying the same thing.

It would be nice to navigate the iTunes store on Apple TV, access the search feature without using the little white Apple remote.

In case nobody has noticed: You can search YouTube (or other search menus) on Apple TV with your iPhone but you have to select Search with the white Apple remote, and then a search screen w/ keyboard magically pops up on your iPhone to input the text. This is not a new feature, it has been there the whole time. That’s pretty cool and all, but I am dying to lay my Apple TV remote to rest entirely.

I guess I’m not done with my rant about review on Apps on the iTunes store…

ForeFlight Mobile… That is an amazing app, and got it’s ass handed to it with retards (R-Word, oops) giving it bad reviews as if it was the same thing as the Weather app that comes with the iPhone. The reviews are better now, but when it first launched, it was a sad thing.

It’s $69.99, but it’s an app for real pilots who actually fly airplanes. It gives airport info, flight plan options, etc. For a pilot, it’s amazing… For a kid sitting in a dorm room, it may not be of much use but they still feel the need to weigh in with their ignorant opinion about price and such…

Pilots generally spend $70 to take a piss at the local FBO…

Please, it’s the same as those whiny idiots in the movie and TV Sections of iTunes who continually post, “iTunes I don’t wanna (buy/rent) I want to (buy/rent) this video” and then one or two star. Or the people who post if you think the price is too high, click Yes…

Royally makes me sick to see these idiots post at all. Expecially now that iTunes posts when the rental will be available.

Macintosh, I whole heartedly agree, reviews on the internet should be assumed written by half-wits and 12 year olds unless proven otherwise.

However, much of this could be overcome by making trial versions of more expensive software such as ForeFlight?

There is no ‘Genius’ option on the TV, yet. Hopefully the next TV update will fix all that.

Btw. I’d be willing to pay for a Remote-pro that would allow me to control more than just the iTunes, pretty much a lot of software available on devices not just on Bonjour but also from a remote IP. If not Apple, maybe some other developers have already done this.

I understand what you are saying, but at the moment I’m not aware of a trial period for apps in iTunes. Regardless, the “reviewers” have no idea what some of the apps are actually for…

I am a Private Pilot (don’t fly commercially, but fly small aircraft), and this app is amazing. It semi-replaces a book that we pilots need to buy and update constantly, because it is always updated as to what the layout of a given airport is at that time (the only reason I say “semi-replaces” is that we pilots like to have two of everything, like fuel pumps for instance)…

Like I said before, pilots aren’t afraid of spending $69.99 on an app of this potential…

But you are right about the trial period, so maybe they should at least offer a good example on their website or something. Like a “hey take it for a test drive on our website” kind of thing. Maybe they do that, I’m not sure.

I would like to see Front Row compatibility with the remote app. It sucks to have an excellent remote that just plays a second song over the one in Front Row. Also iTunes needs to come in front whenever video is played with the remote as well as be able to go fullscreen.

Yo – if you don’t mind losing visibility of your AirTunes remote speakers with this update, go ahead and download it. Otherwise, be prepared to run back and forth to your machine to turn on/off your AirTunes settings with the 1.1 update. Argh.
