Obama picks staunch RIAA, MPAA supporter Biden as running mate

“Barack Obama has chosen one of the most rabid pro-music and film industry senators [Joe Biden] in the business to be his running mate in the forthcoming presidential elections,” Nick Farrell reports for The Inquirer.

“Biden has spent most of his career allied with the FBI and copyright holders. He ranks toward the bottom of CNET’s Technology Voters’ Guide, and has come up with some of the worst anti-privacy legislation,” Farrell reports.

“Biden has been one of Hollywood and the recording industry’s biggest fans and has been working to expand copyright laws. In 2002 he tried to make it a felony to trick certain types of devices into playing unauthorized music or executing unapproved computer programs. The law was caned by almost every technology outfit in the land and was quietly dropped,” Farrell reports.

“Later he wrote to the Justice Department demanding that it use taxpayer money to do the work of the RIAA and MPAA to drag P2P users into court. Fortunately this was ignored by the DoJ,” Farrell reports.

“Last year, Biden sponsored an RIAA-backed bill aimed at restricting Americans’ ability to record and play back individual songs from satellite and Internet radio services. This was in support of his chums at the RIAA who were suing satellite radio companies at the time,” Farrell reports.

“Biden has refused to answer questions on technology. This might have something to do with the fact he supports Internet taxes and censoring libraries and schools,” Farrell reports.

p2pnet news reports, ”Public figures commonly use anonymous speech writers,’ says Wikipedia, ‘If a speech uses plagiarized material, however, it is the public figure who may be cast in a bad light. For instance, Delaware Senator Joe Biden was forced out of the 1988 U.S. Presidential race (but remained in the U.S. Senate) when it was discovered that parts of his campaign speeches were plagiarized from speeches by British Labour party leader Neil Kinnock and Robert Kennedy.'”

p2pnet news reports, ”That’s the same Joe Biden carefully chosen by presidential hopeful Bark Obama as his Vice Presidential candidate in the current US elections.”

  1. This along with Obama’s decision to vote for granting retroactive immunity to telecoms has really turned me off on him. I don’t like the kinds of changes he apparently has in mind.

  2. I have dreaded checking this site for several months now because of all the Obama banners. Glad to see you guys are finally waking up.
The site looks much better with them gone.

  3. Biden is bad for the country as Vice President. And Obama choice of Biden shows that he’s less about change and more about being uninformed and unready jr. Senator with delusions of grandeur.

Biden will push is Pro RIAA/MPAA and unlimited FBI powers agendas as Vice President. Obama does not have the power base to stop Biden so in the end a vote for Obama for President is a Vote for Biden for President.

Vote No on Biden/Obama for President.

  4. Yeah, these are the little things that people have been convinced to worry about. Little minds have been sidetracked. Last I checked, we have 2 wars we’re fighting, the economy is worse than it was in the Carter Years, gas was near $4 per gallon, people are losing homes and jobs. Yes, I could go on. But you’d rather worry about stuff like the MPAA and RIAA, or gay marriage, because those are the things that are really hurting us, right?

  5. Demon, you do realize that if Biden becomes vice president, his only real power is to break ties in the Senate, right? That is unless he takes the reins like Darth Cheney and uses the president as a puppet….

  6. NOBAMA. McCain Romney 08. I could never vote for a guy who opposes legislation requiring babies to be cared for post-labor even though they were intended to be aborted. Such an attitude is murderous.

However, I see no problem with people enforcing the current copyright law as it stands. If people want the law changed, then vote for people that will change it.

  7. Figures.

Obama, alias ‘Hussein’, is a complete idiot.

Has the skills of a high school debate team flunkey. Never been the executive of anything, never run a business, never seen a military uniform, knows squat about foreign policy, hardly any real political experience.

Slavery apologist and bleeding heart libs fawn over this clown like he was their mother.

Sorry, but the economy is not near as bad, nor public outlook, as it was under Carter.

And yes, we had two wars going then. The Cold War with the USSR, and the same war with Islamic fundamentalist as now, neither of which Carter chose to fight.

I don’t care too much for Biden’s politics, but I do admire the fact that he was able to carry on after the loss of a wife and child (assuming they meant something to him). But most of all, I admire his ego. It is something to behold….

  9. what a bunch of selfish pricks some of you people are… and the obama banner that’s been here for months has been replaced with mccain? seriously? over THAT? there’s so MANY more important things to worry about than riaa/mpaa bullshit, but NOOO, forget all of that because obama picked a veep that disagrees with you on a few trivial issues. there’s a COUNTRY outside your macintosh and ipod, children, and if you vote mccain it’s not going to get any better… not that any of that f*cking matters to you, as long as you’re able to freely pirate (oops, i mean backup) all of your music and movies to seven thousand different devices – for personal use, of course…

    don’t bother replying. i won’t be back.

  10. Tower Tone. Check your “facts”. The economic index clearly shows that the economy, including unemployment, gas and the price index are far worse today than under Carter. Further, Carter did not start off with a great economy and flush it in a few years, nor did Carter start 2 wars, one of which was unnecessary. The “wars” you talk about were not wars in which we were actively fighting either – they were not real wars.

Who are you describing, Obama or Dumbya? I guess the real difference is that Obama never wore a uniform, but then ducked out when the fighting started. Oh yeah, Obama graduated at the top of his class at Harvard without the help of daddy’s friends. Dumbya barely made it out of Yale. They both tried coke, but Dumbya is too cowardly to admit it, or to admit any other mistakes he made, such as the last 8 years.

  12. The only ones to blame for the sad state of affairs in the country are the american people. They elected every idiot currently sitting in Washington. If americans want to place the blame somewhere… one look in the mirror would suffice for most.
