“Over the past few weeks, several Wall Street kernels have popped when it comes to Apple. Another this morning, courtesy of Pacific Crest Securities, and investors might be wondering when the whole bowl of kernels finally, suddenly, becomes popcorn,” Jim Goldman reports for CNBC.
“Analyst Andy Hargreaves focuses on Apple’s iPhone and its momentum in the marketplace… Hargreaves reports this morning that Apple’s iPhone ‘browser share has nearly doubled to 0.31% since the 3G launch.’ It’s a key metric that shows market penetration and customer use. Says Hargreaves: ‘Accelerating web usage highlights iPhone’s key long-term advantages,'” Goldman reports.
“There’s a reason why so many [AAPL] targets are above $200 a share (and why Hargreaves sits at $235 this morning): Consumers seem to know what some investors are having trouble grasping — or believing: that Apple might be positioned better in so many key markets than any of its competitors,” Goldman reports.

Hey everyone, I need some feedback from those of you who have updated to iPhone 2.0.2.
I have downloaded the update and it starts to update my phone, by first backing it up to iTunes, but it doesn’t go anywhere from there. It’s stuck at the first maybe 5% of backing up, and I left it to do it’s thing overnight, but without any success. Interestingly, while it’s supposedly backing up, the phone doesn’t say that it’s synching, but is instead just charging. Did anyone else have this issue, and if yes, what’s worked to fix it?

What OS/Computer/Connection type are you running on?
I’m using a first-gen MacBook (1.8Ghz) and a first-gen iPhone. This is the first time I’ve had any problems with updating it, and I do it on a almost-daily basis as the apps I have installed on it get new updates. I don’t have that many apps (maybe 25 total), so it shouldn’t take too long, and it would’ve certainly completed overnight (which it didn’t in this case).

The OS is 10.5.4 and I’ve tried rebooting both devices without any success. I keep both devices clean of clutter and in very good shape (a bit on the OC side

A year later, and USA still trails many European and Asian countries in this regard.
Maybe you should have gotten an iPod touch (keep your old cell phone)..

I have a high-speed connection, and the update downloaded to my iTunes without a hitch. It’s just the backup during the installation that is making problem at this time, as iTunes seems to freeze at about 5% of the backup track.

That’s .31% of ALL web usage, not .31% of mobile web usage.
Apple’s share of MOBILE usage is even bigger.
Apple is the new Microsoft. ICal that. Allow 3 years.

The same thing happened to me. I was able to fix it by selecting the iPhone in iTunes, and on the summary page, clicking the ‘sync’ button the lower right hand side.

I had the same problem and called Apple support. They had n idea, but….
I fixed it by disconnection the phone, closing iTunes. Restarting iTunes, and connecting the phone. Then I let it do a full synch. (This seems ciritical) when the sych was finished I clicked on the update button and everything worked, albeit slowly.
I think the issue is that if your phone is somewhere in the synch cycle it conflicts with the updater ‘backup’. If you let the synch finish it seems to update perfectly.

Before the update, I downloaded Texas Hold ‘Em with the iPhone version of the app store, and my iTunes kept choking on it.
Before using the ‘Sync’ button, I had to cancel the backup.

I did keep my old cell phone. It’s the original iPhone 2G, and it runs just fine.

Also attempt to install a fresh copy of iTunes, apparently the patched version can give you problems.
Just had the pleasure of one of my friends showing me his brand new LG Voyager on the Verizon network. He handed me the phone and my first question was “how do I get on the internet?”
Answer: “I don’t know”
After a few minutes of fumbling around he managed to connect to the NBC Olympic web site. My next question was “how do I read this web site with a screen that is this small?”
Answer: “I don’t know, besides I will only use this for phone calls because I have a laptop that does that other stuff.
Most people just don’t get it.
