Apple’s iPhone 2.0 to gain iPhone contacts search, meeting invites

“Apple’s next generation iPhone 2.0 software is expected to bring both contact search and meeting invites, according the latest builds distributed to developers. Based on a information from software distributed privately to enterprise beta testers, new screenshots reveal a new search bar in the Contacts menu. The new feature replaces the magnifying glass icon seen in the iPhone SDK demo,” MacNN reports.

“In addition, the drawer button in the Calendar application, previously inactive, provides access to a meeting invitation interface that displays the number of new requests as an icon badge — much like other new content notifications, according to the report. Engadget also indicates that enterprise users don’t get the app store or iTunes store icons,” MacNN reports.

  1. We need the ability to search the ENTIRE PHONE, not just the contacts: the ability to search the note pad, the contacts, the calendar, etc.

    The Palm Treo lets you globally search the ENTIRE PHONE — all your applications — with one simple search command.

    Come on, Apple!!! Give us what we need!

  2. I Agree with Petey, cross the board spotlight search for the iPhone. Though if you think about it, it’d only be searching notes, bookmarks, contacts, and calander items, unless it’s also opened up to custom applications developed with the iPhone SDK

  3. @MacBill

    Who is “we”?
    I don’t need it, haven’t needed it in nearly the year I’ve had my iPhone, and don’t really foresee needing it, either.

    Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s an okay idea, but I haven’t, don’t, and probably won’t need the ability to search my entire phone.

    The moral of the story is;
    Speak for yourself, and don’t assume everyone *needs* the things that you do.

    Moo

  4. “record a voice message… Then send it like a text.
    How cool would that be?”

  5. If you are doing business on the iPhone you will need global search and copy and paste.
    My Palm is dieing and my nokia sucks but without copy and paste I will have to replace my old Palm with a “new” one. Apple can’t offer everything at once but not having those basic features is disappointing.
