Report: Hon Hai secures order for Apple’s next-gen iPhone

“Taiwan’s Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. has secured an exclusive contract to assemble a more advanced version of Apple Inc.’s popular iPhone, a person familiar with the situation told Dow Jones Newswires Friday,” Wei Yi Lim reports for Dow Jones Newswires.

“The person, who declined to be named, said Hon Hai would be producing next- generation iPhones for Apple and is the exclusive contract manufacturer for the new phones,” Lim reports.

“A Hon Hai official, who declined to be named, told Dow Jones Newswires that the company was in talks with Apple for the supply of a ‘more advanced version’ of the current iPhone. The Hon Hai official declined to provide further details,” Lim reports. “Apple spokeswoman Jill Tan declined to comment.”

  1. WOO HOOO!!!

And how long did it take after these announcements for the iPhone v1.0 to arrive? NOT TOO LONG!!!!

I’m hoping for 3g, 32gb, dual cameras (with a flash on the back), video, and OLED backlighting. I would venture to say the same form factor, or very close to it and or the iPod Touch… and $499 list price! Two versions, one for Japan with CDMA, and one for the GSM world. Forget GPS, google maps is good enough.

  2. A Hon Hai official, who declined to be named, is currently running for his life chased by a Gulfstream V on a runway in Taiwan . The full HD video complete with screaming in Dolby Surround will be available on iTunes later today.

  3. The next-gen iPhone will have a new self-destruct mechanism for extra security. The mechanism is triggered by a nuclear missile fuse. Apparently, Hon Hai had no difficulty importing millions of them for production.

OLED isn’t backlighting, it’s the whole display. Are you thinking of LED? Personally, I’d love to see an OLED display, as they have amazing pixel density and contrast, but, seeing as Sony displayed one at the Japanese trade show a few months ago, a 13-inch, I think, priced at around $10,000, I have my doubts about OLED finding its way into the iPhone soon.

  5. My dog just told me he heard from the cat down the street that Apple will refresh the iPod line, update the Mac line and release a new iPhone someday before the end of the decade.

Remember, you heard it hear first.

  6. If I was a cell phone manufacturer I’d get cracking fast on somthing to compete with the iPhone, otherwise, in another two years, Apple will be at 80% market share on this too. My AAPL shares can’t wait.
