Many indicators point toward Apple having blockbuster holiday sales success

“On Black Friday, wifey and I took the kids to San Francisco’s Union Square to see the tree-lighting ceremony — but we ended up in the nearby Apple Store buying yet another iPod,” Leander Kahney writes for Wired.

“I’d wanted to avoid the store — all stores in fact — but as we passed by, some excited shoppers who were leaving handed us sales fliers. “It’s the only time Apple puts stuff on sale,” one of the unpaid evangelists explained, imploring us to pick up a bargain,” Kahney writes. “And so we ended up spending more than $200 on a gift iPod — but, hey, we saved $30!”

“My little shopping parable is just one of many indicators that point toward Apple having the blockbuster of all holiday seasons,” Kahney writes.

Kahney covers many factors that will contribute to Apple’s blockbuster success this holiday quarter:

• Black Friday
• Apple’s strongest notebook and iPod lineup ever
• NPD Group: says iMacs and MacBooks will be bigger than iPod
• Apple Stores’ “gravitational pull”
• Predictions and evidence of a very positive overall shopping season
• Unbelievably profitable Apple Retail Store network
• Apple extending retail store hours
• Apple sells boatloads of goods without holding sales (except for minor ones on Black Friday)
• Apple doesn’t need sales fliers inserted in the Sunday newspapers

  1. Apple sure has a lock on high-physics technologies, it would appear…

First, Steve Jobs perfected (and probably patented) the Reality Distortion Field 25 or 30 years ago…

Fast forward to the present, and every Apple store has a small black hole installed somewhere which creates the gravitational pull that brings customers in, though they have also devised gravity repulsers that normalize gravity within the stores.

At least that’s one of my theory’s…

It’s more plausible than my other theory, wherein humans have finally evolved to a point that they are actually starting to grow functioning brains and buying products that don’t suck, right? Or perhaps that is due to another Apple innovation that is subconsciously transmitted to TV viewers as they watch Apple’s various commercials?

  2. Yep, we ordered an iMac on Friday the Black. My wife gets a corporate discount, which went down further on Friday the 23rd, so we pulled the trigger.

Our order is for the 20″ 2.0Ghz, with the wireless mouse & keyboard. Purchase price: $1123.00. Down from reg. retail of $1249.00, or about 10% off; it’s not a ‘Screaming Deal,’ bur from Apple it isn’t bad for new product.

  3. I have news for you i-POD lemmings: If you want to give your loved ones a de-featured Zune this holiday season, go ahead. Don’t be surprised when you see them at the 2008 summer family reunion rocking a marvelous Zune which they got after returning that flash-in-the-pan i-POD you burdened them with at Christmas.

So have fun with the hippies at your overpriced Apple stores which are too good for cash registers and buy your proprietary gear which can’t play games.

    Your potential. Our passion.™

  4. Yeah, ZT, the Zoon rocks . . . but for only half as long as any comparable iPod before needing a charger. And Gawd knows that “larger” screen with the blocky pixels is a real eye-catcher (not to mention eye-destroyer). If only I could find ANYBODY else in the civilized world with one of these marvelous devices, I’d squirt the living bejeebers out of ’em with my rockin’ great music and picture collection.

    Your innovation. Our copy machine.™

  5. Hey zuney… I already posted this in another thread but just in case you missed it…

it turns out that the zune really saved the day for me last night. I was coming home after work, had just picked up my son from school and it started snowing pretty bad. When we got to our final hill before the driveway the car started spinning wheels. I gave it several tries but just could not quite make it. Finally my boy said “Dad, let me get out and then you give it one more try” So I did and lo and behold I made the hill.

“What did you do son” I asked. He said “I did something I had been wanting to do ever since grandpa gave me the zune. I chucked it under the spinning car tire”!
