“Simply put, Mac OS X Leopard is one of the most significant operating system achievements we have witnessed in years. Not only does it add functionality that Microsoft could only have dreamed of, it does so in a snappy environment that doesn’t annoy you with pop-ups asking for permission or all of those security threats we have come to know (and hate) in Windows,” Reisinger blogs.
“Unfortunately for Microsoft, the cards have been dealt and the future of the operating system market is beyond its control. Vista–its workhorse for the next three to five years–is the only thing standing between Microsoft’s command of the operating system market and Apple. But unfortunately for Microsoft, Leopard is a superior product on a ‘cool’ computer,” Reisinger blogs.
“With the release of the iPhone and its subsequent success, Apple has enjoyed record-setting profits, a significant increase in Mac market share, and continued success in the PMP market. Simply put, Apple is easily the most favored company in the industry. And while Leopard is more of an evolutionary jump than a revolutionary jump, it’s enough of a change to justify its purchase,” Reisinger blogs.
“Leopard was released at the right time. With Apple dominating headlines and becoming a company in vogue, it wouldn’t surprise me to see Mac sales jump far beyond expectations in the coming months. And once that happens, Leopard will start its rise and take a significant share away from Microsoft,” Reisinger blogs. “Believe what you will, but with sluggish sales and an outright condemnation on the part of retailers worldwide, Microsoft is in trouble.”

Microsoft embarrassed? It’s Apple who should be embarrassed. Leopard is not even good enough to be a poor man’s Vista. Maybe Apple should have called it Pussy. I’m rockin’ Vista (a.k.a. MAC OS 10.8) on a Dell right now and the Aero interface is stunning. Drop shadows, transperency, you name it. Now I know where Apple steals their ideas.
The consumer isn’t stupid. They’ll eventually recognize MAC OS X for the Vista impostor that it is, and it will be all over for Apple. You MAC lemmings better enjoy the ride ’cause it’s almost over.

I think Apple has been anticipating this. It’s been known for a while now that Windows is getting clunky and I think that the OS development team at Apple was especially aware of it…..
Competing with a company as innovative as Apple in the operating system space while trying to maintain backwards compatibility I think Apple knows is architectually impossible with Windows in its current form. I think they think if they keep pushing out major upgrades every 12-18 months….eventually the system is gonna get so bloated it’s just going to collapse on top of itself trying to keep up.

And nothing of value was lost. Unfortunately, Windows is the only thing the majority of computer users have ever known though. They have grown accustomed to the suckiness of Windows. Windows is the only thing computer makers, besides Apple, can put on their machines too. Yes Dell has started offering computers with Ubuntu installed, but Linux distros for the most part are still too difficult for the average user to handle. Even setting up your wireless card using ndiswrapper in Ubuntu is a little too advance for the average user.
Apple is primarily a hardware company and have set up their mac line as a premium product. I know Macs are well priced for their specs, but you can buy a far cheaper non-apple computer with lower specs. You get what you pay for, so a 300 dollar computer isn’t going to be as good as 900 dollar computer, but some people can’t afford more than 300 dollars. Apple should release computers like the mac mini at a lower price. A midrang tower would be a good idea too. Apple has a proline and a consumer line of Macs so this would be another product line. An apple version of the Asus Eee pc, a cheap laptop for basic tasks but running OS X, would sell fast too.
In my opinion, the future is in handhelds. People are going to want to carry their main computer around with them where ever they go. At home, they’ll just use a docking station to use their other hardware. The iphone/ipod touch is what macs ten years from now will be based on. Apple has a gigantic chunk of the handheld market as is with plenty of room to grow.
It is interesting. I do not know anyone planning to buy a windows computer. They all are getting Apple notebooks. Is the Windows home market in full collapse and we just do not know it yet?

Why are you on a Mac “Fanboy” website reading about how great apple is if you like Vista so much?
I won’t waste my time on how windows “aero” interface has been on OS X for years, and also how most of vista’s feature were already out in Tiger before vista was even given a name.
You know what, i will just let the stock shares, market shares, and profit’s of Apple do the talking.

Oh, and microsoft doesn’t “invent” or “develop” anything, they have either purchased them, or copied them from Apple An/or Xerox since the early 80’s.
I think Apple saw this coming. It’s been known for a few years now that Windows is getting bloated and I think Apple knows innovation and Microsoft’s stubborness about backwards compatibility won’t work out.
So Apple pushes out major upgrades to OS X every 12-18 months and knows Microsoft will try to keep up and I think they believe that eventually, from an architecture standpoint….Windows won’t hold up and will just collapse on top of itself.

Say … WHAT?!?!?
OSX runs on Macs, not (legally) on generic PCs. There are reasons for that, one being that Apple doesn’t want to support all the third-rate gear many of those generic PCs are built out of. There’s no question that Vista will be able to pick up at least 10% of the over-all market, and that XP will keep OSX – superior though it is – in a minority position. Could Leopard outsell Vista? Sure. I’ll give you that. By a “staggering amount”? No. Won’t give you that. Apple can’t build enough Macs to make that a reality until after XP passes EOL and Vista SP2 is delivered. We’re talking about #1 world-wide, here, and Mac has not even broken the Top 5 there … yet.

Peecee users will always see microsoft products as a better OS even if steve balmer personally laid a turd in a box and sold it as a new windows OS update.
I don’t know. Vista has already sold 88 million copies according to MS (I know, I know). But for every Mac sold around the world there are 90 PCs with Vista installed sold. Hard to see OS X outselling Vista any time soon. We can hope for a change in market share, but that’s about it.
