   actually it was the cheap knockoff FlavorAde that the Jonestown people drank. So as a Mac user I will gladly drink the Kool-Aid, and leave the cheap knockoff for the Windows faithful! They deserve it!

   Well, the new release seems great. I did have one problem. The same thing on two totally different computers. My airport connection kept dropping about every 30 seconds. I’d have to turn off airport and turn it back on to re-connect. The new Login & Keychain Update 1.0 fixed that on both computers.

   I had one issue on the iMac, none on the macbook. Same login issue as reported earlier. I fixed it by booting the computer in Target Mode and then repairing permissions from the other computer.

   I read on AI that if you do the initial full backup on a directly attached drive you can then use it through your airport base station and Time Machine will find it and make incrementals wirelessly.

   Not tested, but it’s what some are saying…

   No problems here. Upgrade onto a G5 Quad and an iMac 20″. Only issue – fixed in 60 seconds – was printers not being found. Simply turned off the printers and turned them back on again.

   I’m discovering cute thing after cute thing as I explore. Trying to get used to Spaces right now. But do like Time Machine a lot.

    Following reboot into Leopard I started checking all my little apps. As an FYI, here’s a short list of some third party developers that already have Leopard compliant apps:

    Audio Hijack Pro – update available;
    Fission – update available;
    Aperture – update available;
    Transmit – not necessary for Leopard;
    Senuti – update available;
    Freeway Pro – update available;
    HP Device Manager – not necessary;
    Skype – not necessary;
    Handbrake – update available;
    SpamSieve – not necessary;
    RadioShift – not necessary;
    Nicecast – update available;
    QuickTunes – not necessary;
    ScreenSteps – not necessary;
    Adobe CS3 Suite – I use it all and it works so far for me;
    Firefox – update available;
    iView MediaPro 3 – not necessary;

    No doubt there are many, many others. But for me, so far everything’s ahead of the game and either works fine anyway, or an update was ready and waiting for me to download.

    So an excellent job done by most third party developers I’ve come across. Thanks.

    Just spent the weekend trying the different install options on my MacBook and iMac (intel, 2 generations old now)

    The upgrade worked fine. The archive/install was a little bumpy with Mail. Had to two pop accounts. When I tried to delete one it deleted both and I had to restore mail from backup.

    The best solution was a Clean/Install. Worked great. I then used Migration Assistant. So far so good. It was a bit slow after restart but after the latest updates which required another restart it seems fine.

    And yes only the complaints for the most part will be on the links above but if you look you’ll also find at least one thread with the word “flawless” in the subject. People are talking about how well it worked. Wonder if Vista had anything like that in their forums.

    Even with the Clean/Install, so far Parallels was the only thing I had to reinstall which was no problem. (Please no comments about how you don’t understand why anyone would need Windows on a Mac. It just shows your ignorance.)

    Anyway, things seem to be working well so far.

    Well I did a standard upgrade to my Al 15 Powerbook 1.25G4. All went well until I tried to open up Mail. Repeatedly crashed and didn’t know what to do. Extremely frustrated and didn’t want to do a complete erase and install. Finally after much searching, I went on the Apple forums and found a posting with a fix – had to remove all my preferences from the folder in the Library as well as the Library Mail folder…anyway finally worked. Can’t seem to recover any of my old mail despite having saved all that was in that folder.

    I had major trouble.
    First tried a regular update. Watched the install log. Only half a page of “errors”, most of which are just notifications thru syserr instead of sysout.
    Upon restart, everything went fine at first, but very sluggishly so. (window resizing, menus dropping, login/logout). Maybe I had to wait till SpotLight’s indexing finished. Then it happened. Without any apparent reason (even when in the login screen), the cursor would become a spinning beachball, which I COULDN’T MOVE. After 5-10 secs, the screen would go black and the sleep light would go on, after 5-10 secs my (white Intel i)Mac spontaneously restarted. Mind you, in Energy saver it said: “never sleep”.
    Couldn’t even install the Developers kit without it restarting before it finished. The system would just restart within minutes, when working on it, but also when idling (somewhat less often).

    So I did an install and archive. This time, the install log produced lotsa errors, even though most messages still were informational.
    After the system came up again, the spontaneous, random restarts were still there. This lasted for two days. I could see that overnight the system had restarted al by itself.

    The next day I did two rather unobtrusive things: in Energy Saver I increased the display sleep time to be greater than the screensaver kick-in time, disabled the option to allow the power button sleep the computer; and I POWERED DOWN the machine for the first time (since weeks).

    Low and behold: after I restarted, all the problems were gone: responsive system + no spontaneous restarts.

    Any ideas what went wrong? I haven’t tried to go back.

    I’m doing my G4 desktop first. Clean and install and then migration assistant. Stuff is backed up. Ran the keychain updates before doing the migration. Everything okay at the moment.

    Then onto the G4 PB. Will probably do a simple upgrade.

    I haven’t bought Leopard yet was reading a thread on Apple Forum Leopard. A blue screen for hours was the norm for some people. A gentleman by the name of Chris Mcculloh had a fix for it. Praise has been heaped upon Chris for the fix. Here it is:

    “Power down and reboot holding down the “C” key to boot from the DVD.
    Start the installation.
    When it reaches the point where you select the hard disk, you’ll see a greyed out option button at the lower left.
    Select the disk, and the options button will become active.
    Click it and select Archive and Install, and also select the preserve settings box below it.”

    Worked for me folks. Great workaround

    The “Stacks” feature is stupid. Why does it have to lean sideways? That’s gratuitous, and it looks ridiculous.

    And they broke the Dock. You can now only go one folder level deep. Now you have to double click one nested folder after another instead of just being able to drill down from the dock.
