After a one-month period that saw more than one million votes cast, AskMen.com’s Top 49 Men of 2007 have been chosen, and the list is now revealed. “We’ve spent the past few weeks sifting through your votes and assembling the rankings of the guys that you’ve deemed to be the best representatives of our gender – this year’s manliest men,” says AskMen.com.
At #7 on the list, Apple CEO Steve Jobs ranks above the likes of Simon Cowell (#38), Apple’s own Jonathan Ive (#33), Kanye West (#28), Tiger Woods (#26), Stephen Colbert (#24), Richard Branson (#21), Sacha Baron Cohen (#18), Steve Carell (#13), Brad Pitt (#11), and George Clooney (#8).

Men judge men all the time, in very non-sexual ways. Do you watch football, baseball, basketball, NASCAR? Are you a fan of any movie star such at (early) Marlon Brando, DeNiro, John Wayne, Sanatra? The man who coined the word, Mark Simpson, in 1994, as a way to “chronicling a new male prototype he saw emerging in society. The term has been co-opted in the past few years by fashion companies, though, as a marketing ploy: Give people an identity to strive for, an attractive pigeonhole to squeeze into, and, like sheep, they’ll buy anything associated with it.
In a Salon.com article entitled “Meet The Metrosexual” (July 2003), Simpson said, “old-fashioned (re)productive, repressed, unmoisturized masculinity was being given the pink slip by consumer capitalism. Please make note of the phrases “marketing ploy”, “consumer campitalism”, and “advertiser’s walking wet dream”.
You’re use of the word to mean latent homosexual has nothing to do with how or why the term was created. It is, however, indicative of some sort of internalized homophobia that you seem to have.
