Nokia previews blatant Apple iPhone knock-off (with video)

Alongside the introduction of Ovi, the portal for Nokia’s Internet services and would-be “iTunes killer” (good luck with that), Nokia today unveiled four new mobile devices designed for entertainment, music and games. The devices range in price from 225 to 560 EUR and are expected to begin shipping later this year.

Also presented during Nokia’s GoPlay event was “a glimpse into the future of Nokia interface design… due out next year,” Thomas Ricker reports for Engadget. Anssi Vanjoki, Nokia’s Executive VP & General Manager of Multimedia, was asked about the stunning similarity to Apple’s iPhone. Vanjoki said, “If there is something good in the world then we copy with pride.”

Nokia reinvents the phone with Apple’s iPhone!

It doesn’t get much more blatant than this one; cheap Chinese knock-off outfits included. Nokia has just clearly and unequivocally branded themselves as derivative losers. That would seem like a losing branding strategy, but it’s worked quite well for Microsoft in the past. Lately, not so much.

With this video, if actually from Nokia*, whatever respect we had for Nokia has gone “poof!” Dragged off the Dock forever. Dumped in the Trash and securely emptied.

It’s tIme to start vigorously defending those 200+ iPhone-related patents, Apple.

Apple should tell Nokia to “GoPlayInTraffic.”

*We’re currently slogging through hours of really bad accents to find out if this video is actually from Nokia via the company’s “GoPlay” site here.

  1. This is truly sad on Nokia’s part. I can’t believe they revert to such lame copying tactics….that too without any originality to it. Sadly, most of the people out there wouldn’t care for that aspect.

In reality Apple has not patented the touch screen, nor the device enclosure…what they did patent however, was the multi-touch interface and it’s various finger gestures. In that aspect, even if Nokia slightly tries to pull something off….they will get their ass sewed beyond imagination, becuase Apple has some deep pockets and lawyers who are in a sense bloodhounds.

Moreover, this garbage phone runs Symbian….since when the hell was Symbian even half decent on a Phone after 1999?. I hate to say this, but even Windows Mobile 6 is better, by ages. OS X on the iPhone will destroy anything that Symbian can do….in a lot easier methods as well.

Meh, Nokia has just reverted to sad tactics really…

  2. Elegant, simple – those the things that Nokia has been delivering. Total shit is more like it.

The town and company – they’re both shit. I live in it and I use one, so I guess I know.

Hey, “Suomi!” – VW ain’t that great, BMW shows and delivers innovation.

    When it comes to iClone

That thing is so fucking ripped off; even the commercial is a rip-off. Nokias complicated engineer-ass UI design has tortured the world for so long and it seems that now, when Apple is showing them how, they can deliver good UI.

  3. No wonder Apple people can spot a copy from miles, after all Apple is the biggest copycat of them all. The infamous Apple graphical ui was ripped of Xerox and there were portable mp3 on the market long before iPod was launched.
