Next-gen iPod nano images ‘confirmed’ by Apple Legal?

&t“Ironically, the only sure way to know the truth in an Apple rumor is to receive a takedown notice from Apple Legal. That’s what happened to both Gizmodo and Apple news site 9to5Mac, who posted leaked images of a new, big screen iPod Nano,” Charlie Sorrel blogs for Wired.

“The Fatboy Nano will play video and come in matt black, silver, cranberry, light blue and light green,” Sorrel reports.

Gizmodo is running an online poll, “What do you think about the rumored new iPod nano?” along with a larger image of the rumored next-gen iPod nano here.

  1. Know that iThink about it the design is better. The problem I have with my 2005 Nano is it feels like its going to brake in my hands. I have big hands(better to do mind melds with) and with it being wider that problem would go away. They should also keep the colored aluminum body.

    Live long and prosper,

  2. Gotta call BS on this one. With the success of the touch software on the iPhone, why would they have a button set and sacrifice the size of the screen? They could double their visual real estate in the same footprint and add features at will without being limited by the input device. The only new iPod I expect to see with buttons is the Shuffle. However, if the next Nano has buttons I don’t believe it will have video as well.

    Doesn’t make sense – I don’t believe it’s real.

  3. I think the new style is good, makes for a widerscreen, and I personally have always thought the Nano’s were too small for my hand. Original iPod, too big, iPod Mini – good fit, 5 G iPod good fit, new fatboy nano – looks to be a good fit. Maybe they’ll chop the price off the regular Nano and keep them if you want 2 Gigs of memory and no video. The current Nano is still probably the best for kids 6-12, if you want a screen.

  4. Horrible for a Nano.

    Not-so-bad for a Shuffle.

Once again, Apple takes a decent idea and uses it in the wrong way or, in this case, on the wrong product. For some big name products (AppleTV, iMove 08, and now this), it seems like for this last year SJ has been doing this a lot – losing his focus. Or maybe he’s stopped listening to other talented people around him (I can’t believe Jon Ive would have anything to do with this fatboy iPod).

As the StarWars prequels proved, when someone is lauded as a ‘genius’ for too long, people aren’t willing to tell him when he isn’t wearing clothes anymore. And when that happens, the creative process – taking a good idea and refining it in the crucible of debate – simply breaks down. The you wind up with a “JarJar Binks” or “Midiclorians” … or perhaps a squat, fat, iPod Nano.

Jobs already had quite a strong say on what was and wasn’t produced by Apple, but if he’s become the ONLY voice … well, that might explain things like this. He sure as Hell isn’t listening to his customers (iMovie 08) or paying attention to overwhelming market trends (AppleTV w/no DVR or ability to play a DVD). Of course the latter may be because his new BFFs are Hollywood CEOs.

Anyway, if this is the new Nano, along with the reported feature boost, I hope a nice juicy price drop is in the cards to entice everyone disgusted by the looks.

It will definitely be interesting to see how this one plays out.

  5. Sweeeeet! I’m going to buy this just to store my extensive collection of Jim Croce “Bad Bad Leroy Brown” re-mixes. You wanna hear Godsmack sing “Bad Bad Leroy Brown”? I got it. How about Gwen Stefani’s rendition? It’s all right here. William Shatner absolutely nails the song, but occasionally gets confused and says “Nimoy Brown”. I also have the London Symphony Orchestra edition too!

Can’t wait! I’m gonna be the coolest dude at the gym with my “Bad Bad Leroy Brown” collection! MDN should host a Jim Croce Day!

  6. It looks like a scaled-down version of the big iPod. Why would it be “ugly,” unless you think the big iPod is ugly? I think it looks cool and makes sense. My only question is about scale. How big is that screen?

  7. cut the iphone in half, both size and spec, click wheel to scroll ur number sync with itunes and address book looks like not just a ipod nano but poss the nano phone cut costs on form factor use same case less production cost in tooling = more profit , try that for a concept (i will be 100% wrong but what the hell sounds possible)
