“We have the results of two recent ChangeWave surveys – an April consumer survey on smart phone demand among consumers, and a May corporate survey on smart phone buying trends for businesses,” Jim Woods and Paul Carton report for Changewave Alliance.
;The continued rivalry among industry leaders has RIM (33%) holding onto its consumer market share lead over Palm (29%) – with Motorola (8%), Samsung (5%) and Nokia (3%) trailing by wide margins,” Woods and Carton report.
“In a startling finding, our April consumer survey shows one-in-four (26%) potential smart phone purchasers say they’ll opt for the iPhone – immediately catapulting Apple into a first place tie with industry leader Research in Motion (26%),” Woods and Carton report.
“Looking at future company purchase plans, it appears the Apple iPhone will also hit the business market with a splash. An impressive 9% of Alliance members who report their company is purchasing smart phones in the 3rd Quarter say they plan to buy the iPhone,” Woods and Carton report.
“Similar to the consumer side, Apple’s future gains do not appear like they’ll take a bite out of RIM’s corporate market share (26%; down 1-pt), but do appear set to hurt Palm (19%; down 3-pts) and Motorola (16%; down 3-pts),” Woods and Carton report.

“In a startling finding…”
Hardly.
They can no longer ignore reality can they? RDF or not!:-)

@ ChrissyOne, that is how they try to sidestep their previous predictions! They are startled by the people’s response to their FUD.
So now they are credible Ah? Only to their paymasters who are now pandering to the consumers pockets!
The $ rules O.K
Coomon sense rules when it comes to Apple…Okay!!!
Check this story out! The mighty Apple does it again!!!!!!!!!:-)

So, is this website iphonedailynews.com or MACdailynews.com? Whats with all this iphone stuff? I come here to find the latest about the mac, but instead 95% is about a telephone! – A $500 telephone!
@ Portheus
The iPhone IS a Mac !!
What part of that concept dont you get ??
Sheesh !! Chill !!
@ Portheus
Where have you been… me?
Yeah, shake it, monkey boy!!!
@ C1 I just read your post on the price of the iphone!!
What time of the month was it when you wrote that?
Remind me not to mess with you at that time:-)
Steve Ballmer? Who’s he?
Who comes up when you do a Google search on “steve”? Here’s a clue: it ain’t Steve Ballmer

iPhone is not a mac. It will run OS X or something, but its not a Mac. Can I use the iPhone to write reports, work on spreadhseets, edit graphics and get my work done? Hell, no! Its just a glorified telephone. The iPhone is cool – no doubt about it – but the endless daily reports about it are getting in the way of the real Mac stuff.
Gates: Pack your bags
Ballmer: What do I need? Light clothes? Heavy clothes? Where are we going on holiday?
Gates: Just pack your bags and get lost.
Portheus, this is a website for Apple news not just Macintosh news. As it happens the big news at the moment is iPhone news not Mac news.
Where’s all the Microsoft Surface news?? I want for info on that Big Ass Table computer!
Ballmer – the biggest wanker in the business.
A guy who has no vision… ideal for running Microsoft.
Long may you head the company, the longer you do the better off Apple is.
If this is a website for Apple news, then why is it called MACdailynews.com instead of APPLEdailynews.com? The point is that 95% of the articles are about a telephone – not about Macs.
iPhone. Whatever. The Zune Phone is gonna have Verizon so it can take advantage of Verizon’s great customer-focused and open services. And Sprint’s services, and US Cellular’s, and the list goes on because Microsoft has their finger on the consumer’s pulse and the consumer wants choice. And the Zune Marketplace.
People don’t want user-friendly multi-touch interfaces or flawless synchronization between a computer and mobile device for music, pictures and movies. They want mobile phone carrier’s services. On a Motorola Q or Zune Phone. The IT guys where I work said the Q only costs $99 and it runs Windows Mobile. Think of it Apple lemmings—the awesome power of Windows in the palm of your hand. That’s another reason why the iPhone will be a dud. No Windows means none of the really cool features of Exchange.
Microsoft + mobile phone carriers is a match made in heaven. They know what’s best for me and you too, if you Apple lemmings would only listen.
My own personal survey of IT guys where I work demonstrates that there is no interest in iPhone—none—and these guys ought to know.
Your potential. Our passion.™
iPhone is big news. Quit complaining, Porterhouse. Or leave. Or both.
Gotta go–my dog stole my skateboard again…

“Ballmer – the biggest wanker in the business.”
And what if I am?
Times change, Portheus. Why mess with name changes, branding and bookmarks? Most of us seem to understand that this is an Apple related news site. Apple has now grown beyond the Mac. It’s all good.
I think you have failed to understand something quite obvious about MDN, Portheus — YOU’RE NOT IN CHARGE. So whine and complain and kvetch all day long. It will not change anything and it will inspire more people to tell you to shut up.
That aside, you have also failed to understand that the iPhone runs OS X. It is therefore a Mac. It may not be useful to you, but if it isn’t, why post all of your neurosees for us to deconstruct and laugh at?
I really think MDN attracts people who just like to vent and don’t think more than a few seconds into the future.
IT CAN’T BE CORPORATE!!!
Those poor IT depts. Oh the humanity.
We have all seen stories on how corporate IT departments are going to try to stop people from trying to use iPhones on their networks. And, of course, the executives at these companies are the most likely to want and buy an iPhone. No doubt they will meet with the uncalled-for resistance to Apple products by their own IT depts and they may actually questios the reasons for it and force the IT dept’s to think like users for a change. In addition, Maybe SOME of that new-found realization will let these same decision makers in their companies see how the IT folks have unnecessarily stymied Apple computing products as well, either overtly through banning Apple products or not site-licensing Apple-compatible VPNs, etc or covertly by such tactics as making Internet Explorer-only compatible internal websites.
Maybe it will finally allow some change!
