Apple confirms Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard to ship on schedule in spring 2007

Apple StoreRegarding DigiTimes’ rumor report that Apple would be postponing Mac OS X Leopard until October in order to — of all things — support Windows Vista in Boot Camp:

“Just spoke with Apple who confirmed the reports are wrong and Leopard is still scheduled to ship in this spring as they previously announced. The rumor mill is wrong again,” Michael Gartenberg reports in his JupiterResearch blog.

  1. Summer starts June 20th, the season before that is Spring.
    Spring began on March 21.
    April 21 – 1 month.
    May 21 – 2 months.
    June 21 – 3 months.

So Apple can release anytime in the next three months and it will still be spring.

Damn lot of geniuses around here….Mr. Reeeeeeeeeeeeee

  2. I think the surprise features will probably surprise and impress most of us. I think the key theme will continue to be “the whole package”, as Steve put it. Apple is looking for Leopard to redefine what can be done on a computer.

  3. Come on folks. Who really & truly cares when it comes out!! It was announced it will be spring, then we wait til spring. Sheesh you people need to get a life if thats all you can do is sit and speculate the seconds til it comes out. wait in line like everyone else and when it comes out stop by Apple or CompUSA and get your copy. But what do you wanna bet some jackarse is gonna spent the night at the door waiting to be the first to get that stores copy? I love Mac but it just isn’t that important people!! Life & your next breathe are far more important!! Get a GRIP !!! And NO I am not some young kid writing this but rather a late 40’s MAC Guy!

    Peace & Blessings,

    Taz

  4. Well, I probably won’t camp out overnight for Leopard but waiting in line talking to cute, Mac-addicted women is certainly worth it. And who knows? I might find(er) a girl willing to check out my enhanced Accessibility or if I’m really lucky, enjoy my overhauled Core Animation. Wink, wink. And in the morning, I’ll need my Spaces, girl.

  5. I read this on MDN back in February 2007:

Sources familiar with the development of Adobe’s next version of Photoshop report that Adobe has ramped up the release of development builds and that a ship date could come as early as the end of March, in line with Apple’s release of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard…an unconfirmed report from a recent tipster puts the release date for Photoshop CS3 on March 27, based on internal communications.

Obviously, the cat is being let out of the bag on Tuesday. Right? Or is it more like Mac sites need hits on their websites so they invent news that rabid Mac users suck up like Kupertino Kool-aid?

  6. Taz,

It takes 40 years to gain the wisdom of what is really important in life. Even then, many people don’t really get it. People too busy rushing around to raise their own kids, not to mention actually play with them each day; too busy to selflessly help others; too busy to pause and think about what is really news and to filter out the commercial hype. I suppose I am saying that too many people are too busy to take the time to think for themselves.

I envy the farmers that casually gather in the local café for a cup o’ coffee and a powdered donut for an hour or two each morning just to chat and enjoy the moments with their friends. They never rush, they just do what has to be done. And a rainy day isn’t depressing, but an opportunity to spend more time with the family. Their kids know the value of a tree and a frog, don’t think twice about getting naked outside the backdoor to change out of muddy clothes and don’t rush to put clean clothes back on, and they enjoy the 5 mile walk into town just to meet friends at the park.

We think what we do is important, but far too many people confuse what is impressive with what is important. They are swept away with the herd of the millions of mindless drones around them. No time to think of alternatives. No time to think about why they do what they do. No time to think. No time to dream.

For me, most important is my time with my friends; sharing thoughts and quietly helping those that I know are struggling. I work so I can do more for my friends, a good investment, not to buy bigger and better versions of junk I already have.

After 40 years, you think of these things. You look back and count the minutes you have wasted on the meaningless plastic society we have created for ourselves, and then promise to never get caught up in it again; to spread more love and wisdom around. Since that day, nothing else has ever mattered. Don’t wait until you are 40 to realize this, life’s to short. You only have 80 summers to play and enjoy life, how will you spend this one?

  7. Simon
Good post. Reminds me of my youth on the farm.
Keep in mind that those farmers in the morning are usually taking a break after a few hours of work already! ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

  8. Yes, Simon. That was enjoyable. But a quick question . . .

“. . . . don’t think twice about getting naked outside the backdoor to change out of muddy clothes and don’t rush to put clean clothes back on, and they enjoy the 5 mile walk into town just to meet friends at the park.”

Are they still naked? There are bug bites to consider on that long walk. And where is this park? I made too much fried chicken and I wanted to share. Really.

    ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

  9. Gartenberg’s report is not a rumor.

It is a report of a direct statement from Apple.

Gartenberg is a third-party. Why doesn’t Apple make the statement direct to the public?

    Apple should have a new policy: “We don’t comment on unannounced delays”. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”raspberry” style=”border:0;” />

  10. You’re absolutely right! The Microsofties and MicroS Shills™ are PISSED! They waited 5 years and all they get is piss-poor imitation of Mac OS 9. Remember, XP was barely System 7.

    Too f-ing bad for them.

NObody forced anyone to join the MS camp.

This is typical of any group of fanboys who’ve been seriously let down by their team; they’ll kick and scream and never admit mistake. The only question is at what point will they swallow their pride and join the winning side?

This is also a good reminder that fanboys are absolutely at the mercy of whatever their team-of-choice does. It’s like watching a TV show that stinks because “everyone else is watching it”. Decisions need to based on more than crowd size…

  11. I’m hoping that by June I can buy a next-gen processor-equipped MacBook Pro, with Blue Ray, and Leopard pre-installed. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

I plan to buy a Mac Mini in June, however they are equipped. (My son’s birthday.)

  12. “Haven’t you heard of Open Office ….
    http://www.openoffice.org

Yes, I’ve heard of oppenoffice, but never used it. I just went to their site to download it and it looks like it runs in X11. No thank you. Granted the aqua version is coming out soon, but still, no thank you.

The majority of people do not want to be computer techs. They want to create a document (using word 99.9999% of the time) and email it without any hitches. The mainstream is not going to download openoffice using X11, sorry.

I think the big surprise with leopard will be an API abstraction layer that runs the majority of windows office programs (i’m not talking video games, just productivity software) without windows. If MS knew that 6 months ago they would have already pulled the plug on Office. They’re going to pull the plug as soon as they realize Mac users don’t even need to purchase windows in order to use office.

This rumor of Apple delaying leopard for Vista is just silly. Vista is not even something that PC users want. I have heard countless number of people pleading with Dell to put XP on their new computer. Why would a PC user who is purchasing a new computer want Vista? Its not compatible with a number of software titles, its hard(er) to use thanks to the new (aqua) GUI, there are countless driver issues….I could go on and on.

The public does not want to stray from XP. Its taken them 6 years to “get used” to the way computers are “supposed” to work. XP is very familiar to them. Switching to Vista is just “as bad” as switching to the Mac.

What’s that? The new Mac OS (leopard) lets me run XP? People love XP, but they’ve also heard great things about the Mac. I have heard more people starting to say that their next computer will just be a Mac. The tide is turning and MS knows it.

So again. If Leopard runs Windows apps without windows, why would MS continue to support office? Oh, because there’s a beta version out there? PFFFTTTT. Halo was originally DESIGNED for the Mac before MS bought out the company and ditched the Mac version (at least for a year or so). If you think MS will continue to develop office (the biggest thing that’s seriously helped mac sales the past 5 years) after leopard is announced, well, you may be surprised.

Let me end this by saying that I love Macs. I converted 4 years ago and have switched my father, my mother, my best friend, my fiancee, and about 5 other people via word of mouth. I ALWAYS recommend the mac to anyone I discuss computers with, but the reaction is like looking at a deer in the headlights. The number 1 question I get? Does it run word? This is just as frustrating to me as it is you, but its the truth. Skeptics always say that compatibility is an issue. I always say its not that way anymore, in fact there’s MS Office for the Mac. Without that last sentence, I couldn’t have switched anyone from PC to Mac.

  13. Does anyone besides me think it’s really interesting how the talk about Vista has almost totally dried up? It’s like Vista doesn’t even exist—which would be no great loss, I must admit! By contrast, the buzz that started when Apple first released OS X has basically never stopped. Looks to me like Vista is the closest thing to DOA that we’re likely to see in the computer world for many, many years. Oh… that is, except for the fabulously uninspiring Microsoft Zune!
