Woz hints about ‘iPhone’ in online Forbes video interview?

In a Forbes Video Network interview, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak talks about a wide range of things from his relationship with Steve Jobs, the iPod, the Intel transistion, and also touches on smart phones:

Woz (at 5:25 into the video): I think of the smart phones today, the Blackberry is my favorite. To be able to do everything in a way that fits your hand so well, with one thumb, pretty much getting you through all your email and your web browsing or whatever – it works the most effectively. Blackberry users are the happiest of all the people that use smart phones, and you know, Treo-type devices… The Blackberry would be mine of choice, but I’m waiting, I’m holding out for a better one.

Hmm, for what better smart phone could Woz be waiting? wink

  1. Oh…the iPhone is coming alright..little doubt of that but it won’t be a Blackberry killer. That’s not the space it will compete in. Apple is CONSUMER electronics company with some reach into business (which is growing).

so…It’s not for the harried business person that Apple is building the iPhone. It’s for the people who want

    1. An extra iPod (I own three and my wife wants one more)
    2. An easy to use device that can surf the web, do IM’s that also plays music and works with iTunes
    3. A truly cool, well designed phone

  2. Wow! Using this leap of logic we could also assume that if Woz said he is waiting on newer, better toilet tissue we should assume that Apple is going to compete with Charmin. Oh gosh, he said something so Apple must be working on it. Apple probably is working on an iPhone somewhere in their labs but this is really reading into nothing.

  3. The real question is…is Woz, as co-founder, able to walk into the secret locked rooms at Apple and be one of the few trusted to not leak confidential information, whether on purpose or accidentally. I believe that is a select few, and I wonder is Woz in that group.

  4. why is this guy still being given all the publicity lately? he’s not part of apple; he hasn’t been for a long while. i highly doubt steve jobs shares secrets about future products coming down apple’s pipeline. he’s like that washed up actor whose last real acting job was 25 years ago, but still jots down “actor” for his/her occupation.

  5. When describing the Blackberry, Woz seemed to focus on the part they got right being the fact that it can be operated completely with the thumb. Sounds familiar. Also, he did ever so slightly have a knowing tone in his voice when he said he was waiting. Very subtle, but I think it was there.

  6. many on this site view S.Jobs as a god and resent
Woz’s significant role in the creation of Apple.

i don’t think that kind of admiration from a male toward another male is ‘normal” and may indicate some repressed, unresloved issues.

i’m a Jobs fan but he puts his pants on just like i do.

  7. well sure he still gas a good few buddies at head quarters… sure he knows what cooki’n down in the loop…
But to call this a slip is a bit much…

    more like a tease ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”LOL” style=”border:0;” />

  8. I currently have a Motorola “Q”. The hardware is great, except for the battery life. But the software (Winblows Mobile) sucks so bad. Half the time my contacts don’t show up without a restart, and you sometimes can’t answer a call without a restart.

  9. I am back now, just watched “Balmer” in a 5 minute interview on Fox news 4 oclock eastern show,

Then I had to go and take a Zune

what a bunch of bull, listening to him talk about Vista and MS in general !!

I prefer hearing Woz , anyday
