A little birdie has told us that Mac O SX 10.4.7 is coming very soon now:
The 10.4.7 Update is recommended for all users and includes general operating system fixes, as well as specific fixes for the following applications and technologies. It includes fixes for:
– preventing AFP deadlocks and dropped connections
– saving Adobe and Quark documents to AFP mounted volumes
– Bluetooth file transfers, pairing and connecting to a Bluetooth mouse, and syncing to mobile phones
– audio playback in QuickTime, iTunes, Final Cut Pro, and Soundtrack applications
– ensuring icons are spaced correctly when viewed on desktop
– determining the space required to burn folders
– iChat audio and video connectivity, creating chat rooms when using AIM
– importing files into Keynote 3
– PDF workflows when using iCal and iPhoto
– reliable use of Automator actions within workflows
– importing and removing fonts in Font Book
– syncing addresses, bookmarks, calendar events and files to .Mac
– compatibility with third party applications and devices
– previous standalone security updates

Then uninstall third party OS hacks and root level installs, before running the update.

Trying to pawn off rumors you read elsewhere or are making up is beneath you.
Looprumors, MacOSRumors, MacOSXRumors, Spymac, etc., do this, and they are going nowhere. Those sites are terrible and sad.
My advice to the owners of MDN:
Stick to what you are great at MDN. Reporting news found elsewhere and adding funny and sharp commentary. It works.

Apple usually releases updates. I’d like it to happen today, but I doubt it.
Apple’s sources are playing the rumor press like fools.
these incremental updates are all well and good but do i really care?
nope. my day to day working with my mac simply wont change.
there’s such a whooo haaaa about .1 changes that do things like ‘fixed problem where previous problems weren’t fixed in previous fixed problems updates’ that all i’m left thinking is… why are there not more LEOPARD rumours?!?!?!?
Instead of Carbon Copy Cloner try SuperDuper, it is excellent.
And in other news Windows users are getting excited about the latest update from Microsoft which may, or may not, protect them from the NudeWorm and other World Cup come-on’s to make sure someone in a third world country takes complete control of their pc’s..!

Look it’s so darn easy to avoid the text ads and MDN needs to make money.

control x, y and press return. Quit and reload MDN.
You can go further with this by learning how to block your computer from visiting websites by editing your hosts file. Search online, it’s rather easy and you’ll get to be more geeky.
You dont need to back up your HD unless you have a lot of little OS X hacks and even then the worst that will happen is those wont work and you need to reinstall. A minor update wont hurt you, a completelly new version of OS X needs a backup otherwise just make a list of things that could be affected, install and check to see if those still work. Look at the list of things it changes, most of those changes are just application updates. Not coresystem functions.
Apple typically releases on a weekday to better distribute the download traffic. This not only puts less pressure on Apple’s servers, but also results in faster downloads for the consumer.
Reason #2,334 to choose a Mac over MS Windows: Updates are welcomed, not feared.
Apple’s Mac OS updates is another hidden pleasure that MS Windows users will never experience. Windows users usually fear an update and often wait many months to see if any friends’ or coworkers’ computers had a melt down or not.
The only issues Mac users may experience are from incompatibilities with existing software from manufacturers that do not fully comply with Apple programming standards. But, this is usually seen in applications and plug-ins created in some high school kid’s basement or poorly ported aps from Windows versions.
I think all you self-absorbed, better-than-thou MAC bitches ought to go and take another dose of Midol–obviously the last one didn’t work. And while you’re at it, go to your local CompUSA and buy a brand new DELL.

if that also happens to mean that if you turn off a file-shared computer without first disconnecting it from the computer its sharing with, and it doesn’t hang for a few minutes before realizing the connection was lost, that’s exciting, because i always forget to disconnect before i shut a computer down. =)
knowing apple, they probably have a few minor performance tweaks hidden in there. they seem to do that now and then.
anyway, i’m obviously more excited about leopard, but 10.4.7’s file sharing fixes will make me happy. =)
What about enabling right clicking with the MBP 15″!
