Microsoft is the biggest Apple developer, and has played a huge role in the history of the Mac. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint all started life as Mac-only applications. There were many people who bought early Macs in the 80s just so they could get Excel and those funky graphs that Lotus 1-2-3 couldn’t do.
the Mac BU at Microsoft is one of the things they are really doing right these days.
Guys, save the childish comments about Microsoft and read the article. The MacBU are clearly some of the biggest Mac fans you could come across. They also write one of the best pieces of software you can get for the Mac. Pages is a toy by comparison. Without Office:mac, you can be sure Apple’s market share would be even lower…
I don’t know — is it just me, or does the whole place feel a little “cramped” for one of the biggest companies in the world and a division that actually makes money? I mean, some taller ceilings, maybe? A little more elbow room?

Cool tour but no lab rats?
With all those Macs lying around…. and Microsoft is so dumb, they took years to try to make a copy of Mac OS X, a.k.a Vista. And it’s not ready yet. Just makes me laugh.
But serious now, MacBU is great! Keep up the good work.

If MIcrosoft dropped OfficeMac, Apple would come out with something so much better that would be adopted almost immediatly by both platforms.
Now that Virtual PC is not needed anymore Apple might just be sending the Microsoft MBU to the unemployment line.
There is no need for Apple to keep the VPC for OfficeMac deal going any longer.
Wouldn’t mind a rack ‘o minis all hooked up together like that – would be one hell of a nice, compact RAID…

As a software developer, I can tell you the MacBU looks more or less like a lot of software development labs I have worked in – except that it has lots of Macs! Realize too that the coders are probably tucked away in a cube farm – these pictures were the testing lab.
A great feature! You owe it to yourself to at least go and look at the pictures.

They deserve alot of credit. I use Office for Mac at home and PC Office at work. I believe it when I’ve heard that the Mac version is considered to be more refined than the Doze version.

Come to think of it, what does the MacBU actually do anymore?!? The only Mac software they produce anymore is Office. IE, Outlook Express, Virtual PC, etc, have all gone by the boards over the past few years. Hell, at the rate things are going, even Office probably won’t be necessary 4-5 years from now.
That foosball table must get a LOT of use…

Why the hell is one of the advertising links in this article (where it says software) a windows only site. So MDN editorialises against the windows side of computing but then tries to convert us. MDN there’s a word for this… hypocrisy. Or can I just hear some Judas silver rattling in your pocket?

RC: The MacBU never had anything to do with VirtualPC. Up until very recently it was made by a company called Connectix, which Microsoft bought and ruined.
