Running Microsoft’s Windows XP won’t melt your Mac (but the fan may never stop running)

“It appears that the fans in Macs do indeed go on regardless of which OS is running, though there is apparently some concern about how the fans are regulated by software over time. Several commenters have pointed out that even in some earlier Mac models, running non-Apple OSes (i.e., Linux) could result in the fans running constantly, due to a lack of Apple power-management software. So, the good news seems to be that, no, XP won’t melt your Mac. The bad news? Your fans may whirr constantly, causing a bit of noise pollution, and possibly draining your batteries before their time if you’re using a MacBookPro,” Engadget’s Marc Perton reports.

  1. “don’t understand what the desire is to run XP on a Mac? Why? Someone explain it to me?”

For the same reason we had classic running with OS X. It allowed us to use both and make the transition.
This will allow Windows users to TAKE THE FIRST STEP! After they start using and get use to OS X they will start using Windows less and less until they realize they don’t need Windows.

Thurrott doesn’t count, he was just trolling for hits.

  2. Everybody seems very concerned about the fans. This is good. I have told by an unamed source at Apple that fans have a low a self esteem by design. Us being concerned about their well being helps to lift their spirits.

What is your problem folks? Who cares about fan problems under Windoze? Putting Windoze on a Mac is like buying a new Ferrari and deciding the best oil to put in it lies in oil sump of your old Tercel, that hasn’t had an oil change in 10000 miles.

I moved from Windoze to Mac four years ago not because of the cool hardware or the Apple geek culture. I moved because of the OS. I have used DOS, Windows 3, Windows FWG, Windows NT, OS/2, Redhat. and slackware on my PC’s. Other than OS/2, I like OS X interface, software offerings, and stability the best (guess who designed OS/2’s interface?).

We should be happy that we (as Apple users) can run the only 64-bit OS available on Intel CPU’s that can also run MS Office. I know, I know, a lot of cool games are Windoze only (hats off to Blizzard BTW). What the Apple community needs is a Wine project equivalent for OS X. That way alll Gatesian influences can be bypassed.
