This is supposedly video of Microsoft’s Windows XP booting on an Intel-based Apple iMac Core Duo from the same “narf2006″ who yesterday posted a series of still photos in his Flickr account, showing what appears to be XP Pro booting up on an iMac Core Duo

Do you think it’s real or a fake?

If it’s real, it’s interesting. With the exception of a few Winbloze apologists, I think this will prove to be a bigger interest in the PC community than in the Mac community.

If narf2006 is smart enough to accomplish this, I also hope he’s capable of documenting the process in writing. The first thing I’d like to see are popular game frame-rates, for PC to Mac-XP comparison purposes, because that’s probably the only barometer many PC users will understand.

Did you notice during the initial install of XP that the color scheme looks like the ol’ white over blue used in the early days of DOS? Things haven’t changed much in twenty years, have they?

Anybody care to tell me the advantage of dual-booting WinXP (or an Win for that matter) on a Mac instead of running it safely inside a protected VirtualPC-like environment within MacOSX? Yes, I know that isn’t available yet, but is the approach that would make sense to me. Why have to shut down my Mac just to reboot it into Windows, then do the same in Windows just to get back to OSX? What a pain that would be, not to mention all the risks associated with the dual-boot concept. I don’t want to turn my Mac into a Windows machine, even for a second. I just want to be able to run Windows apps simultaneously as I run Mac apps, with all the cut/paste options right there. I’d keep the Windows environment completely isolated from the net if at all possible.

Just wondering why some folks think the dual-boot thing is the way to go..? Maybe I’m missing something here.

He could of at least held the keyboard right in front of the screen and pressed keys that we could see show up on the screen. Personally I just need to know how to get a Remote Desktop connection to print on my mac without having to install drivers on the remote machine. At work we use an app that runs via RDC and they installed the triCerat Printing Client – screwdrivers but it only works on windows. If I could find a mac solution I could dump windows entirely.

Hmm. . . Let’s see, Ashvillian claims Secunia as proof of the vulnerability of OS X? Relevant stats, since Jan 2003 67 vulnerabilities on OS X 0 unpatched, as in they have ALL been patched.

Windows XP home in the same time period 115 vulnerabilites with 24 still unpatched.

Perhaps Windows XP “Professional” has a better record. No, actually there have been 130 vulnerabilities in the same time period with 28 STILL unpatched.

huh? – I agree completely with you. For most Mac users the best solution is something like VirtualPC.

However, for potential switchers who aren’t quite sure, maybe the possibility of reverting to Windows if they should decide that Macs are not for them will be enough to help them make the switch.

why the hell are ppl wasting time on this? Am I really stupid, b/c i was under the impression that Mac OS X was a better OS overall. I believe this with conviction, unlike some of these people. Why not believe in an OS that really is “productive” and “secure.”

I’d never want dual boot, give me the protected environment like Virtual PC offered but with 95% of the speed of a real PC.

The best feature of Virtual PC, when something went wrong with Windows you could just quit without saving changes
