RUMOR: Disney to buy stake in Apple’s iTunes Store, could be preface to iTunes Store IPO

“We are hearing some chatter this morning about Apple Computer (AAPL) that we can’t confirm, but found interesting nonetheless. The rumor is that Disney (DIS) could buy a stake in AAPL’s iTunes, which could then be a first step towards an iTunes IPO. This is a new one to us, and this type of AAPL/DIS rumor could be motivated by the fact that Steve Jobs will be on the DIS board following its acquisition of PIXR. Some of the initial feedback we heard on this was skeptical, so again, just passing this one along,” Briefing.com reports.

Imagine iTunes as a separate company, imagine every computer maker can license iTunes, make their own iPods….imagine the new iTunes as the headquarters and clearinghouse and delivery center of all media sold via the internet. The new iTunes would be big.

I am sure Apple is bumping up to the “we may have a monopoly” here with iTunes and the wave after wave of lawsuits and govt. inquiries thatcould bring – why not set up a new company and license this delivery method to everyone???

Where do you get Disney “buying a stake in iTunes” as meaning buying iTunes outright? Talk about jumping to conclusions!

I think this course of action would be briliant, spin iTunes/iTMS off as a separate corporate entity which makes it more attractive for other companies to partner, solve the Apple Corp problem and get everyone off Apple’s back about the FairPlay DRM. Smart move!

Sell ITMS and license Fairplay and lose the ipod market?? Incentive for other broadcasting companies to jump in if their content gets disnified? ROTFLOL.

Rumor: Apple Computer, Inc. Changes its name to APL. EOF

Can you play ITMS songs on a PC under windows? Yep..can you do the opposite? Nope. Do you HAVE to buy songs from ITMS to play them on your iPod? Hell NO. Monopoly..uhm no.

How about just making a wearable pc, loading it up w/ all your happy lil windows media files AND itunes and being on your lil way.
