Dr. Gizmo answeres tech questions for Syracuse Post-Standard readers. Two are Apple-related.
Q. Have you written any pieces on how to create MP3 files (to be able to place on CD) or suggest software for this?
A. The doctor recommends iTunes, the music software from Apple. There are Windows and Mac OS X versions of the program, free from Apple at http://www.apple.com/ilife/itunes . Sophisticated Windows and Mac OS X users can find many separate programs for ripping CDs (extracting music from CDs for storage on a computer) and for converting stored music, usually in MP3 form, into audio CDs. But the doc likes iTunes better than any other software for users who would rather enjoy their computers than spend a few hours a week figuring out geeky stuff.
Another question asks why Dr. Gizmo recommends two separate anti-virus programs for Windows. Dr. Gizmo responds that “A second anti-virus program might find viruses or flag suspect activity that the first one missed,” and adds, “Dr. Gizmo’s OS X Macintoshes are lonely without viruses and spyware.”
