“Apple says not to expect Intel at Macworld, in fact don’t expect any new computer hardware. I have contact with someone that works for Apple at a higher level, when asked if they were attending Macworld he said he [was] told that they shouldn’t go,” Derek Picone reports for TechWB. “Typically if there is a big announcement they are expected to attend.”
Picone reports, “This means that for anyone hoping for the new Intel computers your [sic] out of luck, no hardware will be announced except for maybe the normal speed boosts since those wouldn’t be any reason for them to attend. The only announcements will be coming from the other non computer hardware departments such as new iPods, iSight, Monitors, Programs, and other software and accessories.”

Is Apple really ready? Seems like Rosetta is still in development. In just the last month it gained Altivec support. Is it ready?
Without Rosetta, Intel is a non-starter. What’s the big hurry? Everyone wants shiney new toys? I want Apple to be known as the reliable computer company, not a paper-launcher.
Well, the rumor mill has both sides covered now. Toss a coin and take your pick.
Please. Name the last MWSF that didn’t have a major computer hardware announcement? I can’t think of one ever. They will have something, and it’ll probably be an Intel based system(s), there is little doubt about it.
I’m with PhilR on this one–there will be SOME type of substantial hardware announcement unless Apple’s plans have really fallen through, and the iPod line was refreshed quite recently. The only iPod that could use an update is the Shuffle, but that wouldn’t be a very big deal.
Even if true, what’s to stop another “one more thing…” type scenario.
As much as I hate to say it, this makes a lot of sense. We’ve all seen rumors take a legitimacy life of their own before. The sheer numbers required to launch an Intel Mac line of computers would be difficult to hide without being spotted ahead of time.
Until I hear a leak by some manufacture overseas or somewhere else, I’ll be VERY skeptical.

The last time Apple held a Macworld San Francisco without new hardware was 2000. That year, we got iTools, AppleWorks 6, and a Mac OS X unveiling.
Agree naraa, we want apple to give us intelbased systems but is there really any software for it? emulated software is no joy :/
The only hardware products that haven’t had an ‘official’ update since July are the iBook, the eMac and the mini. (For this take, the mini’s speed bump in September doesn’t qualify as ‘official’, since there never was an announcement.)
Something tells me that Steve getting up on the stage at the Moscone Center to announce an updated eMac ain’t gonna happen…
As for the other two, here’s hoping for some good news!!
Faster G5s and last iteration Powerbooks would be nice not to mention a new iLife but the only hardware update I really want to see is the return to firewire on the iPods. Anyone else iPOed over this switch. Throughput is now rediculously slow! Budzo, you feel me on this?

The eMac is in an even worse situation than the iBook or Mac mini. It hasn’t seen an update since May, when it was speedbumped along side the iMac.

The eMac is no longer in Apple’s lineup except for education institution purchases only. That happened a while back now. So you won’t ever see any more new eMac announcements.

Now would a mac mini intel based media system be a computer or not I wonder. Surely something has to happen with the mini pretty soon. If not computers then maybe some form of handheld. Be pretty lame if all we get is some software updates, especially with all the hype.
And in 1999, MWSF saw the announcement of the Blue & White G3 with the “easy open” case. The MWSF98 was only 6 months after Jobs took over Apple.
